NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: John Oliver delivered an emotional appeal on his show, 'Last Week Tonight', urging reluctant voters to support and elect Kamala Harris in the presidential race.

Fighting back tears, Oliver used the closing 10 minutes of his segment on Sunday night, November 3, to emphasize the stakes of this election.

In his monologue, John Oliver, who was visibly moved, said, “What am I going to be feeling on Wednesday? And is there anything I’m going to wish I’d said right now?”

He outlined his support for Kamala Harris’ policies, particularly her proposals to expand medical care for elder care, protect reproductive freedoms, and uplift low-income Americans.

The comedian also acknowledged the complexities surrounding the Biden administration’s stance on the war in Gaza, a policy that he admitted many voters find “indefensible.”

Acknowledging these criticisms, he addressed the frustration of those who are hesitant to vote for Harris, stating, “Look, I get why this is so difficult, and I know there are some who won’t vote for Harris under any circumstances because of this issue.”

John Oliver highlights consequences of Donald Trump's potential second term

John Oliver went on to explain the potential damage of another Donald Trump presidency, warning that it would extend far beyond the next four years.

“The damage of a second Trump term would last far beyond the next four years and encumber any potential progressive president in the future,” he argued.

He noted the risk of Trump further reshaping the Supreme Court, particularly if he had the chance to replace conservative Justices Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito, securing a majority “that would likely last for the rest of my life.”

Oliver recently became an American citizen and admitted that he had not hoped his first US vote would be for a candidate like Joe Biden.

“But here we are,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “Here is how I look at it. The struggle for justice isn’t just about what happens on Election Day," he continued.

"It’s a fight waged constantly, day in day out, in protests on the street, meetings with legislators and in the thousand small actions that cumulatively move the government forward an inch at a time," Oliver added.

John Oliver calls Donald Trump 'active threat'

John Oliver expressed a personal hope that Kamala Harris' victory could finally end Donald Trump’s divisive influence, saying, “Wouldn’t it be great to live in a world where he’s no longer an active threat? Just an annoyance.”

The comedian added that he looked forward to a world where Americans could laugh at Trump’s recent viral photos, such as one showing the former president in an unflattering fluorescent vest, without fear of his potential actions.

“I want so badly to live in that world, and I hope everyone does everything in their power in the next 48 hours to make that world possible,” Oliver concluded, according to The Independent.

As John Oliver tearfully appealed to voters to support Kamala Harris on Election Day on November 5, netizens mocked the comedian's emotional monologue.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "Please John, let those tears flow. It makes for better memes," and another tweeted, "The funniest thing he's done on the show!"
