WASHINGTON, DC: Jon Stewart claims that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed his 'true colors' during the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. This statement follows the release of a clip showing Kennedy fleeing the scene ahead of his wife.

Gunfire erupted at the annual press event when a security checkpoint was overwhelmed at the Washington Hilton on Saturday evening.

The suspected shooter, Cole Allen, was subdued by security and taken into custody. He has since been charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump.

During a segment on his show, Stewart took aim at Kennedy’s response to the incident, questioning his actions during the incident.

Stewart discussed the disturbing events on Monday's episode of ‘The Daily Show’ in a harsh monologue criticizing the Trump administration.

He showed the viral clip to his audience, encouraging them to pay attention to Kennedy's wife, Cheryl Hines, who seemed to lag behind the Secret Service during the evacuation.

'I got to tell you - no one revealed their true colors more than the Trump administration,' Stewart said.

The Comedy Central host joked that while Kennedy was 'being whisked away by a Secret Service hive,' his security detail could not spare 'one worker bee for his wife.'

Stewart then cut to a video shot by CBS News anchor Tony Dokoupil inside the ballroom, which showed Hines walking behind Kennedy, who was surrounded by agents.

"Do you see it? Do you see right there? There's a group of men carrying another man out of the room," Stewart said.

"And then there's a woman... a woman who appears to be... desperately reaching out for someone to care to help her!" he continued.

RFK Jr. roasted for leaving his wife behind

Stewart then imitated Kennedy's infamous gruff voice and said the Health and Human Services Secretary 'seems like he would be impervious to physical damage.'

"The woman reaching up, in agony and fear, that's RFK Jr's wife!"

"He literally looks like a guy who is trapped between being Bruce Banner and the Hulk," the comedian continued.

"See RFK? Turns out that's an option. You can protect your wife instead of, I don't know, beating her to the escape pod."

"Now for the rest of your life, your wife is going to ask you a question no one's ever asked before, ever - Why can't you be more like Stephen Miller?"

Stewart also poked fun at Vice President JD Vance for a video of a Secret Service agent lifting him out of a chair during the dinner, which Stewart said looked like a 'Dancing with the Stars quickstep.'

Hines shared her perspective on the shooting in a video message to her Instagram followers, calling the night a 'crazy moment in time.'

"So we were there, and we heard shots, everybody got under the tables, nobody knew what was going on, and then Bobby's security detail surrounded us," she said.

"They had to lift me over chairs, because I'm in heels, and a gown. They took us through all of the back ways, and we got in the car and left."

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, identified as a 31-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene. Investigations are ongoing into how the individual was able to access the area and approach the security perimeter.
