NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In this week’s episode of 'The Daily Show', Jon Stewart delivered a fiery yet hilarious critique of Democrats for their reaction to former President Donald Trump’s executive actions and use of presidential powers immediately after taking power.

Stewart took aim at their characterization of Trump as “un-American” and “authoritarian", pointing out that while Trump’s actions may be unsettling, they remain within his constitutional rights.

Jon Stewart calls out democrats over Trump pardons

The episode's conversation turned to Trump’s controversial use of pardons, which liberal pundits branded “unconstitutional,” “authoritarian,” and “un-American.”

Stewart quickly debunked these claims, pointing out that granting pardons is a constitutionally protected presidential power.

“For some reason, we have given presidents the power of a king, and then we say, ‘Well, you’re not going to get all kingly and s**t on us, right?’” he joked.

“To put that in constitutional terms, if I could, don’t hate the player, hate the founding fathers. Because I don’t know if you’ve met Donald Trump, he pushes s**t.”

The segment closed with a passionate call to action for Democratic leaders. Rather than reacting with outrage, Stewart urged them to focus on crafting their own vision for the country.

“The question is probably not, ‘How dare he?’ The question should be, ‘What are you learning from this? How would you use this power? What is your contract with America?’” he said.

“Democrats, exist outside of him. Tell people what you would do with the power that Trump is wielding, and then convince us to give that power to you as soon as possible! That is the goal!”

Jon Stewart Skewers Trump’s 'purge' of inspectors general with classic sarcasm

Speaking of the episode as whole, Stewart opened the segment by addressing media outrage over what many called a Friday night “purge” of government officials, Variety reported.

“Ah! Trump has ushered in the purge,” he exclaimed, dramatically pulling a foam axe from under his desk. “Although, just in case I’m misinterpreting, what is this purge about, exactly?”

An additional news compilation clarified the uproar: on January 24, Trump had fired 17 government agency watchdogs, known as “inspectors general.”

Stewart’s response was a classic sarcasm. “No! He got rid of 17 inspectors general? That only leaves… No one knows how many left,” he quipped.

“Who knows how many generals will now go uninspected? Democrats, inspire my anger, in the least charismatic way possible!”

Stewart then played a clip of Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer calling Trump’s actions a “glaring sign” of a new “golden age for abuse in government and even corruption.”

While acknowledging the concern, Stewart reminded viewers that Trump had the legal authority to fire these officials, with the only violation being his failure to provide 30 days’ notice and a list of reasons.

“I’m sorry, what? Apparently, you can fire them but you have to give them 30 days’ notice. That is what we are upset about?” Stewart asked in disbelief.

He went on to highlight what he dubbed the “first law of Trump-o-dynamics”: every action by Trump triggers an exaggerated overreaction from his critics.

This, Stewart argued, blurs the lines between actual crises and routine political maneuvering.
