CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro told MSNBC's Joy Reid that he refuses to "be lectured" on antisemitism by former president and GOP nominee Donald Trump during a conversation on the floor of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Monday, August 19.

Shapiro was among those shortlisted to become the running mate for Kamala Harris in 2024. Since Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made the cut, Shapiro has been graceful about not being selected and continued to attack MAGA for claiming antisemitism had a role to play in the Harris campaign's choice.

Josh Shapiro's conversation with Joy Reid

"You did make a very spirited defense of the Harris-Walz ticket, and you talked about people on the other side, in the Republican side, tried to accuse that ticket of foregoing you as a running mate because of your faith," Joy Reid shared with Shapiro before asking his take on the issue.

"Well look, the person leading that effort, to inject that into the dialogue, is Donald Trump, someone who has no credibility to speak about antisemitism, or hatred or bigotry in any form," blasted Shapiro straight away. "Because he is someone who pushed that into the dialogue. He is someone who divides Americans."

"Listen, when folks marched with tiki-torches in Charlottesville, Virginia, and literally chanted 'Jews would not replace us,' what did Donald Trump do?" asked Shapiro, bringing up the infamous event of 2017.

"He did not condemn that antisemitic language. He said what? 'There were good people on both sides.' Joy, there were not good people on both sides."

"Donald Trump is someone who pushes hate and bigotry into our politics, and so I will not be lectured, and no one should be lectured by Donald Trump on that," he continued.

"I want to be very clear about something- antisemitism played no role in the dialogue between me and the Vice President. None. It is true that there is antisemitism in this country. It is true that there is racism, and islamophobia, and other forms of hatred and bigotry. And what we need to do, all of us, all leaders, is stand up and speak with moral clarity, act with moral clarity. And Donald Trump is bankrupt when it comes to speaking and acting with moral clarity."

MAGA supporters slam Josh Shapiro's remarks at DNC interview

MAGA supporters took to X (formerly Twitter) and expressed their outrage at Shapiro's remarks during the interview and slammed his take.

"Shapiro should man up and speak up for the Jews of America! Shame on him for towing the party line. Most especially when so much is on the line," wrote a user.

"Shapiro is lying. Kamala is willing to risk losing Pennsylvania to appease the Hamas/Palestine crowd," stated another.

"Shapiro was thrown to the curb," quipped a third.

"Of course it played a difference! They decided to go with the muslim vote that is currently protesting outside and will not vote without a ceasefire over the dependable Jewish vote that they thought they could still keep! That's what the entire Walz decision was about!" exclaimed a fourth user.

"Well, of course, she wouldn't mention it to him," chided a fifth.
