Justin Bieber ‘felt great’ about Coachella 2026 set despite mixed response, says source

An insider shared that the pop star was ‘happy’ with how his Coachella headlining show turned out.

INDIO, CALIFORNIA: Justin Bieber’s long-awaited return to the Coachella stage turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the weekend, not just for the music but for the conversation it sparked online.

The singer, who headlined the festival on Saturday, April 11, delivered a 90-minute performance that divided fans but clearly meant something deeper to him.



Justin Bieber chooses authenticity over spectacle

Bieber’s set stood out for its simplicity. Dressed in a hoodie, shorts, and boots, the 32-year-old performed mostly solo, without the usual support of a live band or dancers.

The minimal approach felt intentional, almost like he was inviting the audience into his current headspace rather than putting on a grand show.

His performance went on to earn mixed reactions from fans. While some showed love for the minimalistic show, which combined both his newer releases and earlier hits, other found the set underwhelming.

However, the Grammy winner was more focused on connection than perfection, according to a source.



"He felt great about the set. He was excited to reconnect with fans in a way that felt true to where he is now," the source told People.

That mindset explains why Bieber isn’t paying attention to the mixed reactions.

"He's not focused on how it's being labeled. He wanted to show up and do it his way. And that's exactly what he did. He's happy with how it turned out," the source added.

A setlist rooted in his SWAG era

The performance itself was split into two distinct halves, giving fans a mix of old and new.

The first part leaned heavily into tracks from his recent albums 'SWAG' and 'SWAG II,' along with some of his well-known hits.

One of the highlights came when The Kid LAROI joined him on stage for their hit 'Stay,' bringing a burst of energy to the otherwise laid-back set.

The second half took a more introspective turn. Bieber sat on the stage with a laptop and searched YouTube, pulling up music videos like 'Baby' and 'Beauty and a Beat,' along with clips such as covers of Chris Brown’s 'With You' and NE-YO’s 'So Sick.'



As the visuals played behind him, Bieber sang along, creating a nostalgic and almost personal moment for the audience.

The show wrapped up with guest appearances from Dijon, Tems, WizKid and Mk.gee, adding a collaborative touch to the closing moments.

A busy yet meaningful weekend with Hailey Bieber

Offstage, the weekend was just as packed.

Hailey Bieber was there to support her husband while also handling her own commitments.

The couple stayed in the Palm Springs area, balancing work with downtime and moments with friends.

"It was a big weekend for both of them," the source said.

"Hailey hosted several Rhode-related events, including an exclusive pop-up. They really made the most of it, though. They were able to support each other and also focus on their own projects," they added.

From surprise guest to headliner

Leading up to Coachella, Bieber had already started building momentum.

Just days before his headlining set, he performed a surprise invite-only show at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, where he performed songs from 'SWAG' and 'SWAG II.'

The albums themselves marked a significant phase in his career, with SWAG released in July 2025 and its sequel arriving in September the same year.

Fans had been eagerly waiting for this moment ever since his headlining slot was announced, even coining the term "#Bieberchella" in celebration.

While Bieber has made surprise appearances at the festival before, joining Ariana Grande in 2019 and Tems in 2024, this year marked his first time taking on the role of a headliner.
