Kamala Harris condemns Donald Trump’s Ford plant gesture
Speaking about the incident, Harris framed Trump’s actions as a betrayal of the dignity attached to the presidency.
“The degradation of the office… that office belongs to the people!” Harris said, reacting to footage that showed Trump raising his middle finger at a Ford employee during a walk-through of the facility.
The moment occurred earlier this month when Trump visited the Detroit-area plant as part of a campaign-style appearance focused on American manufacturing and labor. Video of the encounter spread rapidly online, drawing both condemnation and applause across political lines.
Ford worker suspended after confrontation with Donald Trump
The worker involved was later identified as 40-year-old TJ Sabula. According to multiple reports, Sabula shouted “p*******e protector” at Trump as the president passed by, a phrase tied to criticism surrounding the administration’s handling of files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump was caught on camera mouthing “f**k you” twice in Sabula’s direction before raising his middle finger as he continued walking. The exchange lasted only seconds but quickly went viral, fueling intense debate over presidential conduct and workplace boundaries.
The White House is responding to the TMZ video of Trump flipping someone off at the Ford plant today, saying in a statement to @Sam_Waldenberg, "A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.”…

Ford later confirmed that Sabula had been suspended pending an internal investigation. In an interview with The Washington Post, Sabula said he had “no regrets” about the confrontation, claiming he was being punished for embarrassing the president rather than violating company policy.
He alleged the suspension amounted to “political retribution,” noting that while he identifies as politically independent, he has voted for Republicans in the past but not for Trump.
White House defends Trump as critics point to double standards
The White House swiftly defended Trump’s reaction, portraying the incident as an unprovoked attack.
“A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage and the president gave an appropriate and unambiguous response,” White House communications director Steven Cheung said in a statement.
Harris’ criticism, however, extended beyond the Ford plant moment. Allies of the vice president pointed to past controversies during Trump’s time in office, arguing that his behavior reflects a broader pattern of eroding norms.
Critics also pushed back against what they described as selective outrage, noting that during Harris’ own tenure in the administration, the White House faced scrutiny over protests, controversial demonstrations on the lawn, and reports of illicit substances found within executive spaces.
