NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Kamala Harris is expected to take one of her clearest public steps yet away from former President Joe Biden's political philosophy at the Louisiana Democratic Party's annual gala in New Orleans on Friday, August 7, arguing Democrats can no longer wait for Republicans to have an "epiphany" while unveiling a more confrontational vision that could shape a potential 2028 White House campaign.

According to CNN, the former vice president will contrast her approach with Biden's long-held belief that bipartisan cooperation could eventually return after Trump's second presidency.

Instead, Harris will argue that Democrats need to abandon hopes of Republican self-correction and prepare for a sustained political fight against a GOP she is expected to say has fundamentally changed.

Biden's optimism to come under fire

According to the outlet, Harris is expected to directly challenge one of Biden's best-known political predictions, saying, "We cannot sit around hoping Republicans will have an 'epiphany' and do the right thing because the American people can't afford to wait."

Biden famously predicted during his 2019 campaign that many Republicans would experience an "epiphany" after Trump left office, allowing Washington to return to bipartisan governance.

The remark is expected to mark one of her sharpest public critiques of the president she served under for four years.

Her expected remarks suggest that she sees today's Republican Party as structurally different rather than temporarily shaped by Trump.

A tougher Democratic vision will emerge

Rather than calling for compromise, Harris will urge Democrats to embrace a more "ruthless" political approach.

"This fight requires that we start to get comfortable with some things, including having a certain kind of ruthlessness," she is expected to say.

She will also argue that Trump's departure from office will not end the broader challenge facing Democrats, warning that the Republican Party built around him will outlast his presidency.

Harris is expected to accuse the party of embracing an ideology that creates chaos, concentrates wealth and abuses power.

2028 campaign signals expected to grow louder

Although Harris will probably not announce another presidential campaign, the speech is expected to be the clearest blueprint yet for how she could distinguish herself from both Biden and Trump if she enters the 2028 race

Beyond attacking Republicans, she is expected to call on Democrats to rebuild public trust by delivering a more responsive government, lowering housing and healthcare costs, addressing tax inequality, and establishing guardrails around artificial intelligence.

By preparing to publicly reject Biden's bipartisan optimism while outlining a more aggressive political philosophy, Harris will signal that the Democratic debate is no longer just about opposing Trump. It is increasingly about defining what comes after the Biden era.
