Kamala Harris stuns in dark red sequin gown at 2025 Phoenix Awards Dinner

WASHINGTON, DC: Former Vice President Kamala Harris looked absolutely stunning in a dark red sequin mermaid-cut gown at the 2025 Phoenix Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 27, which she attended alongside her husband Doug Emhoff.
Harris was not just a mere guest at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation event; she also received a special award that evening.
With a classy and confident sense of style, Harris chose to throw light on American fashion.

At the event, Kamala Harris received the CBC Body Award for her outstanding work in creating opportunities and supporting policies that empower the Black community.
While the award was significant, what truly captured everyone's attention was Harris' choice of gown for the evening.

She celebrated the special occasion by wearing a dress designed by American designer Sergio Hudson. The dark red gown had long sleeves that rested elegantly off her shoulders, revealing just a hint of skin. It was also fully adorned with shiny, dark red sequins, which gave it a sparkling effect under the lights.
The sleeves were fitted but not overly tight, and the off-shoulder cut was modest yet stylish, perfectly complementing the mermaid cut. Harris wore her hair loose, letting the gown shine without distraction.

The 60-year-old's subtle makeup emphasized her natural beauty rather than overshadowing the ensemble. She chose a light red lipstick that almost mirrored the hue of her dress and highlighted her eyes with a delicate touch of eyeliner.
To complete the look, Harris wore her signature white pearls that beautifully complemented the deep red of the gown.
Harris' husband Emhoff complemented her look perfectly in a classic black coat paired with a black tie, creating a cohesive and elegant couple’s appearance.

During an interaction with Vogue, Kamala Harris spoke about the designer’s vision, saying, “Sergio Hudson’s designs — a reflection of his vision and artistry — embody confidence, dignity, and pride.”
She also expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am honored to celebrate his talent and the ways he is helping to shape the future of American fashion.”

This was not the first time the author of '107 Days' worked with the Los Angeles-based designer.
During the night of her inauguration as vice president in 2021, Harris wore a black tuxedo coat over a black sequined dress from Hudson.
The annual Phoenix Awards Dinner at the Walter E Washington Convention Center brought together some of the most influential Black leaders, policymakers, and educators to celebrate achievements that have made a difference in the community.
