SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Kamala Harris offered a fresh serving of her signature word salads as well as one of her head-scratching analogies — this time involving elephants at the San Diego Zoo — as she returned to the spotlight on Wednesday, April 30.

The former vice president and failed Democratic presidential candidate was the headliner at the Emerge 20th Anniversary Gala held at San Francisco’s iconic Palace Hotel.

“It’s good to be home!” she said with her trademark laugh, before taking aim at President Donald Trump.

In just 15 minutes, Harris tore into Trump’s policies, his tariffs, and his entire economic playbook, the Daily Mail reported.

Kamala Harris lashes out at Donald Trump's economic agenda during Emerge Gala speech

Kamala Harris wasted no time dragging Donald Trump’s economic agenda through the mud.

“Instead of the administration working to advance America’s highest ideals, we are witnessing a wholesale abandonment of those ideals,” she said.

The Democrat slammed the MAGA leader for his “reckless tariffs” on foreign nations, which she claimed triggered “the biggest manmade economic crisis in modern presidential history.” According to Harris, the costs landed squarely on the backs of American “workers and families.”

Harris declared that Trump's agenda was "not lowering costs," "not making life more affordable," and "not what they promised."

She then pivoted to the supposed psychology of Trumpism, accusing the administration of weaponizing fear.

“They are counting on the notion that if they can make some people afraid, it will have a chilling effect on others,” she warned. “But what they have overlooked is that fear is not the only thing that is contagious. Courage is contagious.”

Kamala Harris uses an elephant analogy to call on Democrats to band together

However, in a rather bizarre analogy, Kamala Harris urged fellow Democrats to learn a lesson from elephants — specifically, the ones at the San Diego Zoo.

Referencing a video that went viral after a recent earthquake, the former vice president described how the elephants there responded.

“As soon as they felt the earth shaking beneath their feet, they got in a circle and stood next to each other to protect the most vulnerable. Think about it. What a powerful metaphor,” she said.

"Because we know those who try to incite fear are most effective when they divide and conquer, when they separate the herd, when they try to make everyone think they are alone. But in the face of crisis, the lesson is: Don't scatter. The instinct has to be to immediately find each other and to know that the circle will be strong," Harris added.

But the speech wasn’t just about blasting Trump. It seems Harris had a bigger goal — replanting herself in the minds of donors, activists, and future voters.

Uncertainty looms over Kamala Harris' political future

While her remarks only lasted about 15 minutes, they capped off a high-dollar fundraiser for Emerge America, a group dedicated to electing Democratic women. Tickets ran as high as $50,000 for top-tier sponsors, though fans could livestream Harris for a more wallet-friendly $25.

The event also featured rising female stars like Michigan Senate hopeful Mallory McMorrow and Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger.

That said, many are speculating about what Harris' next moves might be.

With California Governor Gavin Newsom term-limited in 2026 and already setting his sights on the White House in 2028, Harris is rumored to be eyeing the governor’s mansion. That would give her a fresh executive resume (and perhaps a stronger platform for another shot at the presidency in 2028).
