Kate Hudson and brother Oliver reveal they declined Kurt Russell's adoption offer: 'We don't need it'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson were young when their mother, Goldie Hawn, began dating actor Kurt Russell.
Despite growing up with Russell as a father figure, the siblings once refused his offer to adopt them, they recalled on their 'Sibling Revelry' podcast.
Oliver Hudson on Kurt Russell's adoption offer
Oliver Hudson discussed how Kurt Russell entered their lives when he was around five or six years old, taking on the role of a father after their biological father, musician Bill Hudson, was largely absent.
“Essentially, he raised me. … I'm the man I am today because of him," Oliver shared on the podcast according to Fox News.
He then talked about when Russell asked if he and Kate wanted to be adopted.
“There was a moment when he asked us, myself and Kate, if we wanted to be adopted, and we said no," Oliver said.
"Not that we were, you know, very aware of probably what it even f*****g meant. … We just said, ‘Well, we don't need it. The love is right there,’” he added.
Oliver Hudson's relationship with Bill Hudson
Despite their decision, Oliver Hudson acknowledged the lingering impact of not having their biological father present.
“When you don't have your biological [father] around, it's hard to replace that, no matter what," he said.
"The love was there with Kurt, no doubt about it. He is my dad. I call him Pa. But there was always, not something missing, but it was always sort of like, ‘Wow, but there’s that other side,’” Oliver added.
“It took a long, long, long, long time,” he said. “I only say this because my dad, he was around for a little bit, then he bailed," he told other members on the podcast.
Oliver Hudson opens up about childhood trauma involving Goldie Hawn
Earlier this year, Oliver Hudson discussed experiencing "trauma" related to Goldie Hawn.
“My mother was the one that I had almost the most trauma about, interestingly enough," he said.
However, he later clarified, “I don’t know who I would be without my mother. … The love that I have for her and the respect and the reverence that I have for her is beyond anything.”
