MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie earned netizens' support as he disclosed his reasons for not withdrawing from the presidential battle, calling those who are pushing him to do so "crazy."

The 61-year-old GOP candidate appeared on MSNBC’s 'Morning Joe' on Wednesday, January 3 and was asked about his response to New Hampshire Gov Chris Sununu's call for him to drop out of the race.

During the interview, host Jonathan Lemire asked Christie about the calls and his plan “to stay in through potentially the Trump legal process.”

The former governor replied, “At some point as this stuff starts to fall apart, the Republican voters are going to need an alternative. Who has made it very clear that they're against Donald Trump.”

“They predicted this was going to happen all along and I've been saying it ever since I got into the race, unlike anybody else in the race. And so you know, this is never going to be easy,” he added.

Christie also stated that withdrawing from the race at this point is “totally ridiculous.” “I mean, in the end, everyone is a long shot in this race, but Donald Trump on the Republican side, if you believe the polling and so the question is who's standing on principle,” he expressed.

He then continued by noting, “I view this as a fight for not only the soul of my party but for the soul of our country and who we going to be.”

“What kind of government do we want? And so why should that fight be determined by polls? I'd rather have people vote and look, I've won and I've lost. Winning's better. But you know. I know what I'm losing. And if I lose, then I'm going to have to reevaluate all of this. But I haven't lost anything yet,” he claimed.

Christie says those urging him to drop out of the race are 'crazy'

Gov Chris Sununu of New Hampshire referred to Christie as "a friend" in an interview with CNN on Sunday morning, but he also stated that he believed the former governor of New Jersey's 2024 campaign is "at an absolute dead end."

He also argued that Christie's staying in the race could affect Nikki Haley's Chances of defeating Donald Trump. "There's no doubt that if Christie stays in the race, the risk is that he takes her margin of the win."

Reflecting on the calls, Christie said, “Anybody thinks I’m getting out of this race, they’re crazy.” He also refuted Sununu’s claim that he’s a “one-man show” in the 2024 race because he’s “only talking about Trump.”

“I remember when Chris used to care about Donald Trump,” Christie said, adding, “He’s the guy who came, I think to the Gridiron Club, and said that Trump belongs in a mental institution. And now he’s saying that he’d vote for him if he were the nominee.”

'Chris Christie is in it not just for himself'

Christie has apparently garnered immense internet support after revealing why he refuses to drop out of the race. “Go Chris Keep the truth going,” one user said.

“He was always clear it was all about calling out Trump and his lies,” a second user wrote. “I cannot fathom why this guy isn’t more popular amongst the party. I’ve seen his mistakes and shortcomings, but compared to the rest? Come on,” a third praised.

“I may not agree with his policies but he is probably the most sane person of the republican candidates. However, he doesn't do Fox's bidding, so he won't get their endorsement,” another asserted.

“The only one left without a yellow streak,” a user wrote while another said, “Chris Christie is in it not just for himself but for all of us!”
