EPPING, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie has weighed in on rival contender Nikki Haley's answer on the Civil War, where she omitted slavery as a cause.

The former New Jersey Governor slammed Haley's response during a town hall in Epping, New Hampshire, on Thursday, December 28. In a video clip of the event shared by Senior Digital Editor for MeidasTouch.com Acyn on his X account, Christie was seen criticizing his rival candidate.

"You've got to tell the truth. And I'll make it easy for you. If someone asked me what the cause of the civil war was… it's easy. It's slavery," said Christie.

Haley embarrassed herself during her town hall in Berlin, New Hampshire, on December 27, when she omitted slavery as a cause of the Civil War and instead focused on the role of the government. Besides widespread backlash from netizens, 'The View' host Ana Navarro also called out the former UN ambassador. Another 'The View' host, Sunny Hostin, also took a dig at her on X responding to her comments on Joe Biden's age, saying at least he "knows the Civil War was about slavery."

Chris Christie questions Nikki Haley's ability to hold office

Christie, who was recently kept off Maine's primary ballot, shredded Haley over her town hall response and questioned her ability to be the President of the United States.

"If she's unwilling to stand up and say that slavery is what caused the civil war because she's afraid of offending constituents in some other parts of the country, if she's afraid to say that Donald Trump is unfit because she is afraid of offending people who support Donald Trump... What's going to happen when she has to stand up to Vladimir Putin and President Xi?" Christie questioned.

The former UN ambassador has repeatedly refrained from commenting on Donald Trump's legal battles. For instance, in an ABC interview, she said that learning details of the former President's cases is "wasted energy."

In the town hall conversation, Christie also took a jab at Haley's chances of becoming Trump's VP if he wins in 2024. According to him, her reasons for not remarking on the leading GOP presidential candidate might be that "she harbors in the back of her mind being Vice President or being Secretary of State." He further claimed that although she would not deny it, "we have to believe that she is willing to do it."

The possibility of Haley becoming Trump's VP made headlines for a while, and the latest report claimed that the former President is asking the opinions of his allies regarding the same.

Netizens agree with Chris Christie's criticism of Haley

Netizens are satisfied with Christie criticizing Haley's failure to acknowledge the role of slavery in the Civil War. As per CNN, she later clarified the statement; however, social media reactions found the former New Jersey Governor's response "spot on."
