WASHINGTON, DC: Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy warned Republicans, including Donald Trump, from making 'stupid and dumb' personal attacks on Kamala Harris, according to Daily Mail.

Following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the contest against Trump on Sunday, Harris — the first vice president of color — is the likely Democratic nominee for the presidential election.

Notably, Republicans started insulting Harris and dubbing her a 'DEI hire' almost immediately after Biden withdrew his reelection campaign.

McCarthy informed his colleagues that this was a serious mistake that would only benefit Harris by alienating independents and moderates from the party.

He told 'Meet the Press' on NBC, "Two attacks I've heard Republicans give that are totally stupid and dumb to do is the DEI attack, OK? This DEI, that seems like a petty... Look, I disagree with DEI, but she is the vice president of the United States. She is the former US senator. These congressmen that are saying it, they're wrong in their own instincts."

McCarthy also dismissed Republican allies' demands that Biden resign as president to promote Harris to the position. He said, "That would be an advantage for Kamala. Air Force One is very powerful when it lands somewhere."

He added, "And you know what? Something will happen between now and the election. A hurricane or something else. And she'll be able to present herself as a leader. Or maybe there's some foreign policy. That is a mistake for any leader to go out and say that on the Republican side."

Moreover, other Republicans, including McCarthy, echoed his advice to refrain from making personal attacks on Harris to prevent upsetting moderate voters.

Internet grills Kevin McCarthy as he warns Republicans not to attack Kamala Harris

Several internet users grilled Kevin McCarthy as he warned Republicans, including Donald Trump, from making 'stupid and dumb' personal attacks on Kamala Harris.

A user wrote on X, "No longer relevant", while another added, "Of course it’s stupid. But to say you disagree with DEI is srupid too."

Some online comments read "Isn't McCarthy forgetting that Biden told the world himself that he was picking her for her race and gender" and "Biden made her ethnicity the basis for her selection. If it wasn't racist for him to call on it, then it's not racist now."

A person also stated, "She actually was a DEI hire. Biden said publicly that he was only going to select a black woman for VP, white men and women need not apply", whereas one mentioned, "McCarthy acts like what he thinks matters to most of us. It surely doesn't matter to me. It hadn't stopped my comments about her."

A user also wrote, "But the Dims have been doing that for nearly eight years. No one calls them out for their behaviour."
