NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: 'Shark Tank' star Kevin O'Leary shared his willingness to visit Mar-a-Lago and broker a deal to create an "economic union" between the United States and Canada with President-elect Donald Trump, during his appearance on Fox Business on Thursday, December 26.

A Canadian himself, the venture capitalist believed he would be supported in his endeavor by a majority of his countrymen.

His interest in creating such a merger comes after Trump suggested multiple times in recent weeks that the northern neighbor should become the "51st state" of the USA, reported the New York Post.

Donald Trump argued in his Christmas Day post on Truth Social that Canada should become a US state so that its citizens could enjoy lower taxes and be "militarily protected like no other Country anywhere in the World."

Commenting on the proposal during his interview on Fox, O'Leary stated, "Canadians over the holidays, the last two days, have been talking about this. They want to hear more.”

While he agreed that “there’s obviously a lot of issues” that needed to be worked out if the idea was ever to be executed, he felt that it could also be "the beginning of an economic union.”

“Think about the power of combining the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States, and putting all that resource up to the northern borders where China and Russia are knocking on the door,” the investor elaborated.

"So secure (the northern territories), give a common currency, figure out taxes across the board, get everything trading both ways, create a new, almost EU-like passport – I like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested."

A strong critic of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberal Party government, O'Leary added, "Nobody wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I don’t want him doing it for me. So I’m going to go to Mar-A-Lago. I’ll start the narrative. The 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me on this deal.”

Internet shuts down Kevin O'Leary

Kevin O'Leary sparked outrage with his comments among Canadians on social media. The following tweets demonstrate their takes.

"Kevin O’Leary can f**k off. He’s unCanadian," slammed a user.

"In Canada, it's pretty hard to be hated more than Justin Trudeau is, but I think Kevin O'Leary has pulled it off," wrote another.

"On top of everything else, Kevin O'Leary is a traitor to Canada," stated a third.

"Kevin O'Leary wouldn't know what half of Canadians would be interested in, as at least 95 percent of Canada can't stand him," jibed a fourth.

"Kevin O'Leary needs to get his facts straight and stop his treasonous BS. As a matter of fact let's send him packing out of Canada to Russia where he belongs!" shared a fifth.

"Kevin O'Leary is a selfish, self-centered, ego-maniacal Donkey, who has zero authority to speak on behalf of Canada," echoed a sixth.
