Kid Rock recalls Trump leaving him to make painfully awkward small talk with Macron
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kid Rock recounted an unexpected turn during a golf outing with President Donald Trump, when he suddenly found himself on the phone with French President Emmanuel Macron, only for Trump to climb into a golf cart and leave him to handle the conversation.
The singer shared the anecdote on 'Real Time with Bill Maher' on Friday, October 30.
A longtime Trump supporter, Kid Rock said he was caught off guard when the president walked away while he was still speaking to Macron.
Left to keep the call going, he joked that he resorted to asking the French leader some awkward questions.
MUST WATCH: Kid Rock has Bill Maher pounding the table HYSTERICALLY laughing as he tells the story of President Trump taking Macron’s call on the golf course, introducing “the great Kid Rock,” handing over the phone, then peeling out in the golf cart and leaving him on the line. “I’m from the Paris of the Midwest, Detroit.” Bill Maher: “Oh, you want to tell the Macron story? The Macron, the golf cart story?” Kid Rock: “Oh, yeah, that was funny. Yeah, we're all golfing. And I hate speaking out of school, but this is just a fun one. And I mean, the guy's taking calls all day. [POTUS is] working while you're golfing. The guy does not stop working. That's true. I think we can all agree on that. He works. He sleeps like me four or five hours a night. So we're out there. Macron calls. He's like, blah, blah, blah. He's talking. I'm kind of standing.” “I'm standing next to his golf cart. He's like, ‘Hey, I'm here with the great Kid Rock.’ Like, Macron knows who I am. And he's like, ‘Bob, say hello.’ So he gives me the phone. I'm like, ‘Hello, Mr. President. And I'm like, I'm from the Paris of the Midwest, Detroit.’ And Trump leaves.” Bill Maher: “He leaves Macron on the phone with Kid Rock.” Kid Rock: “’What else you been up to?’”

Kid Rock recalls awkward call with Emmanuel Macron
Kid Rock shared the unusual encounter after Maher invited him to recount an unexpected phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The singer initially laughed off the memory, calling it a funny incident from a golf outing with Trump.
“I hate speaking out of school, but this is just a fun one,” he said, as Maher listened.
According to Kid Rock, Trump continued taking calls even while playing golf, and he described the president as someone who works throughout the day and gets only four or five hours of sleep.
During one outing, Macron called while Trump was with the group. Rather than stepping away for a private conversation, Trump reportedly kept the others nearby before bringing the singer into it.
“He’s like, ‘hey, I’m here with the great Kid Rock,’ like Macron knows who I am, and he’s like, ‘Bob, say hello,’” the musician recalled.

Trump then passed him the phone, putting him directly in conversation with the French president.
Kid Rock greeted Macron and tried to make a memorable introduction by telling him he came from “the Paris of the Midwest: Detroit!”
But the exchange took an unexpected turn almost immediately.
Just as Kid Rock found himself speaking to Macron, Trump got into a golf cart and drove away, leaving the singer holding the phone with the French president still on the line.
Maher reacted with surprise at the thought of Trump walking off while Macron was still talking to his guest.
“He leaves Macron on the phone with Kid Rock,” he said.
Kid Rock said he was left unsure how to handle the situation, so he tried to keep the conversation alive with a casual question: “So what else you been up to?”

Kid Rock's bond with Trump
The story landed after Trump attacked Maher on Truth Social. In a 1,300-word post on Sunday, October 25, the president called him a “complete and total loser” and claimed Maher was drunk during their October 15 dinner at the White House, which Kid Rock and Stephen A Smith also attended.
But Kid Rock is the reason the two men met.
He arranged Maher’s first White House dinner with Trump on March 31, 2025. Afterward, Maher called Trump “gracious and measured.”
Kid Rock’s loyalty to Trump goes back years.

He has backed Trump in every presidential run, and in July 2024, he performed at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Trump said at the convention that he and Kid Rock had been friends for about ten years.
That week, Kid Rock also donated $50,000 to a fund for those wounded in the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally shooting.
He has told interviewers he supports Trump because Trump “likes to win.” He has also described the friendship as a front-row seat to the greatest show on earth.
