Kim Kardashian reveals she has to ‘hold back’ North West, 13, from taking on fame projects
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Kim Kardashian has opened up about her children’s relationship with fame, revealing that her eldest daughter, North West, is more comfortable in the spotlight than her siblings.
The reality star said she worries about the impact of her intense level of fame on her children while navigating the opportunities coming North’s way.
Kardashian also discussed her parenting style and how she and her ex-husband, Kanye West, communicate about their children’s projects.
Kim Kardashian on North West’s growing fame
Kardashian shares North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7, with her ex-husband, Kanye West. Speaking to The Sunday Times, she said each of her children decides how comfortable they feel being involved in her work.
While her younger children sometimes join her when she is filming, they do not have their own storylines.
“North loves it a little bit more than the rest,” Kardashian said, explaining that her eldest daughter is more comfortable in front of the cameras than her siblings.
Kardashian said she has to hold North back from accepting every opportunity that comes her way, as her daughter is eager to pursue "forward-facing projects."
Kardashian said the family is trying to “savor those moments” rather than accept every opportunity, allowing them to manage North’s career at a comfortable pace.
North has already taken on several projects, including releasing her EP, 'N0rth4evr,' in May and appearing on the cover of Dazed magazine for its September issue.
She also performed at her first solo concert at the Vic Theatre in Chicago last month. Kardashian and West both supported her at the sold-out show, although the former couple sat in different sections of the venue.
The concert came after North canceled her planned 14-stop tour with rapper Molly Santana in July, just days before its first show.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s co-parenting approach
Kardashian described herself as an “intermediate-strict parent,” while also saying she is “extremely patient and loving.”
Despite having five nannies to help care for her four children, she said she makes sure she is the one who takes them to and from school and sits down with them for family dinner every night.
She also said she allows her children to sleep in her bed whenever they want and reads books with them every night.
Kardashian and West remain aligned when it comes to the projects their children take on, particularly North’s growing music career. “That is something that her dad and I have better communication about,” Kardashian said.
“We make sure we’re aligned and that she’s in projects that we both approve.”
North, meanwhile, has defended her decision to pursue music, saying the worst advice she received was to wait before starting her career.
She has also defended her bold style, which has included faux piercings and face tattoos, saying, “All I want is blue hair and piercings.”
