NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem made her way to New York to hold a press conference on Thursday, January 8, to address the recent shooting in Minneapolis.
During the briefing, the DHS secretary gave an update on the ICE agent who had opened fire and fatally shot Renee Nicole Good.
Noem told the reporters that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who had shot Good followed his training and had to be taken to the hospital after being hit by her vehicle, was treated and released.

Noem stood by the ICE official who shot Renee Nicole Good and said that the officer involved had followed his training. She added that he had over a decade of experience under his belt.
Noem added that the ICE agent was currently spending time with his family after being discharged from the hospital for the injuries he had sustained when Good hit him with her car.
“He had acted appropriately to protect his life and the life of his colleagues and fellow law enforcement officers,” she said on Thursday.
She also further praised the operation that was aimed at discovering illegal immigrants in the US and said that since Operation Salvo had started, they had apprehended 54 individuals.
“Those arrested are violent transnational gang members and affiliates associated with Trinitarios,” she revealed.
Noem further criticized the mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey who had openly urged ICE agents to leave his state in light of Good’s death. Noem said that the mayor had chosen to stand by “illegals” as she also slammed other democratic lawmakers for their reaction.
Democrats slam Trump administration over ICE shooting
Several democratic leaders, such as the Mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey and the Governor of New York Kathy Hochul had slammed the Trump administration for enabling ICE agents and for putting American lives in danger.
Hakeem Jeffries also slammed the administration as he noted that the killing of Renee Nicole Good was an “abomination.”
He added that it was a disgrace and that her blood was on those who worked within the Trump administration and had been pushing for extreme policies.
“You felt like your stomach was being punched,” Chuck Schumer said.
