Kylie Williams: 3-year-old girl killed in multi-vehicle crash in New Jersey over weekend
HOWELL, NEW JERSEY: A 3-year-old girl tragically lost her life in a multi-vehicle crash in New Jersey over the weekend.
In a press release, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said that authorities responded to New Jersey State Route 34 just north of the interchange with State Route 33 in Howell on a report of a collision on Saturday, January 13, around 4.45 pm local time.
"At that location, they found the three involved vehicles, a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck with an adult female driver, a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an adult female driver and three passengers, including two children, and a 2021 Ford Bronco with an adult female driver," according to the prosecutor's office.
Who was driving the vehicle?
Prosecutors said that on Friday a 34-year-old woman was driving the Jeep, while a 37-year-old woman was a passenger inside the vehicle along with a 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl, identified as Kylie Williams by loved ones and NJ Advance Media.
Kylie was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment and the 2-year-old boy sustained minor injuries, according to the authorities.
The Asbury Park Press identified the driver as Joelle Williams, mother of the two children, and the 34-year-old passenger as Joelle's sister, Valerie. According to the paper, Valerie sustained minor injuries.
The drivers of the pickup truck and the Ford Bronco also sustained minor injuries, as per the prosecutor's office. The cause of the crash is currently unknown, and the prosecutor's office mentioned that no summonses or criminal charges have been issued yet.
A GoFundMe has been launched to support the family
According to a GoFundMe campaign launched to support the family, the Jeep was "just a few short miles from home" when the collision occurred.
"Kylie, Kyle and Joelle’s precious daughter, died at the scene of the accident. Joelle herself has suffered extremely severe injuries and has already had 2+ surgeries and faces several more plus rehab and an extended recovery of months to a year +," read a message on the fundraiser. "Lucas and Valerie, thankfully, suffered minor injuries and will be fine."
"Kyle & Joelle are a hard-working couple, both teachers," the organizer continued. "Plus, Joelle also was growing her own successful children’s party planning business and Kyle is a very successful Youth Competitive Swim Coach. In the blink of an eye on what should have been a regular Saturday evening, their lives imploded."
Additionally, a second GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to support the family.
"It’s time to rally around Kyle and his family and to give them some of the financial support they may need in this tragic time," read a message on the page. "Let us be the community he can count on right now."
