WASHINGTON, DC: Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law of former president Donald Trump, suggested that her father-in-law is being targeted by the "deep state."

She linked recent issues such as the hack of his campaign and technical problems during his interview with Elon Musk to a broader attempt to hinder his potential return to the White House.

Lara Trump says there is massive effort to keep Donald Trump out of White House

Lara Trump did not hold back in accusing the “deep state” of being behind her father-in-law's troubles.

“Yeah, Sean, I think it’s pretty obvious at this point. There are a lot of people out there, and there’s a massive effort, of course, to keep Donald Trump out of the White House,” said Lara Trump on Fox News.

"These people are terrified. This is the deep state. This is a swamp in Washington, DC," Lara Trump said, according to The Hill.

"These are the people who are our adversaries in many cases, and they know that the jig is up, the game is over, when Donald J Trump returns to the White House. And they’re petrified of it,” Lara said further.

Elon Musk's X hit by technical glitches during Donald Trump's interview

Donald Trump’s interview with Elon Musk on Monday night, August 12, was delayed by more than 40 minutes due to technical glitches that prevented some users from joining.

The incident was reminiscent of the troubled campaign launch by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on the same platform, X’s Spaces feature.

While it remains unclear what caused the technical difficulties, Musk later claimed that a “massive DDOS,” or denial-of-service attack, targeted the platform.

"A DDoS attack sends a very large number of signals to an online target to disrupt it,” Anthony Lim, Director of the Centre for Strategic Cyberspace and International Studies in Singapore, told the BBC.

“It is unlikely it would affect only one single service or feature on a website" Lim said.

Lim mentioned that the service could have temporarily crashed due to a large number of people attempting to access it simultaneously.

Andrew Hay of the IT company Damovo suggested that the issues might have resulted from a cyber-attack.

Monday notably marked Trump's comeback to X. He had been banned from the platform following the Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

Trump's account unleashed a flood of campaign advertisements on Monday, August 12. Prior to this, he had only made one post in 2023, which was a mug shot and a link to his campaign website, following the reinstatement of his X account by Musk in 2022.

Internet mocks Lara Trump for claiming 'deep state' was behind Donald Trump's campaign hack

Lara Trump’s remarks sparking a wave of reactions on social media. Many users were skeptical of her claims with some mocking her intelligence and questioning the validity of her statements.

“Getting their excuses ready for a rapidly approaching election defeat,” wrote one user on X.

Another commented, “Lara has the answers for everything… usually not the correct answers though,” with yet another demanding, “Present the evidence, Lara.”

"She’s so dumb, she gives Hoebert and Large Marge a run for the money in the category of dumb," wrote one.

One user remarked, “Lara is deep in lies and disinformation! It’s the Republican Style of Campaigning!”

Another added, “Without blame, they have nothing to talk about."

Other reactions pointed out possible alternative explanations for the technical issues.

One user predicted, “Or maybe firing 80% of your own employees might have something to do with it,” while another suggested, “It’s always someone else’s fault in MAGA world. Maybe, just maybe you ppl are just incompetent?”

However, there were a few who entertained the possibility of her claims. “It’s always a possibility!” wrote one user, while another added, “big if true…”
