CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Fox News host Laura Ingraham fired back with indignation at the Democratic National Convention after delegates broke out in chants of 'Lock Him Up' aimed at mocking Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Ingraham’s outburst came during her Tuesday show, August 20, where she lamented the seriousness of the Democratic chants, contrasting them with what she called the “good fun” of MAGA’s 2016 chants against Hillary Clinton.

“What they are really committed to doing is punishing Donald Trump and all of his followers,” Ingraham charged. “Now I remember the 'Lock Her Up' chants, they made a big deal of that at the Trump rallies in 2016.”

"And whatever you think, it seemed to me that they were kind of chanted all in good fun," she added. "But these people, these people are serious. Now they aren't here to work with Republicans. They want to crush Republicans."

Donald Trump says he was 'protective' of Hillary Clinton

Nevertheless, Donald Trump recently claimed during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on August 8 that he shielded Hillary Clinton from his supporters' chants.

“With Hillary Clinton, I could have done things to her that would make your head spin,” he said. “I was very protective of her,” Trump said.

"I thought it was a very bad thing to take the wife of the president of the United States and put her in jail. Then I see the way they treat me. That's the way it goes. I was very protective of her."

Trump was convicted this year by a jury in New York convicted of 34 felonies for falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment to an adult film actress. The former president claims his legal problems are "politically motivated".

"Nobody would understand that. I think my people understand it. They used to say lock her up, and I would say, 'relax, please'. We won the election. I think it would have been horrible for our country, and we had her between the hammering of all of the files," he continued.

Reality of Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign

Donald Trump’s claims stand in stark contrast to his behavior during the 2016 campaign, where he often stoked the “lock her up” chants. On multiple occasions, he explicitly called for Clinton's imprisonment, branding her email practices as secretary of state under the Barack Obama administration as criminal; no charges were filed against her.

Despite Trump’s narrative of restraint, he explicitly endorsed the crowd’s calls for Clinton’s incarceration, declaring at a rally, “For what she’s done, they should lock her up.”
