INDIANOLA, IOWA: Former President Donald Trump found himself in hot water as he urged Iowan voters to caucus for him at any cost even if they are 'sick as a dog'.

The 77-year-old GOP front-runner was speaking to a packed Simpson College auditorium during an in-person rally in Indianola when he asserted that even if people 'passed away' shortly after voting, it would be 'worth it'.

“You can’t sit home. If you’re sick as a dog, you say, ‘Darling, I gotta make it,’” Trump told his supporters on Sunday, January 14, adding “Even if you vote and then pass away, it’s worth it, remember.”

"If this is any indication, the storm has had zero effect. You're very hearty people, I've heard that,” the real estate mogul added, according to US Today.

As Iowa gets ready for the caucus, meteorologists issued a warning about 'life-threatening' circumstances for the next weekend. Trump also postponed three of his four in-person Iowa events on Sunday due to the extreme cold and snow.

Some sections of the state might experience windchill as low as -40 degrees on Monday, along with negative temperatures, as per the Hill.

Trump calls Judge Kaplan 'the worst judge in the country'

Further during the rally, the former President slammed judge Lewis A Kaplan as “the worst judge in the country” after being denied a delay to his civil trial against E Jean Carroll to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law.

“My wife’s mother, who was an incredible woman of great beauty inside and out… she just died,” he said doubling down on his previous remarks and posts on his social media platform Truth Social.

“And my wife is very devastated by that. And I have a trial going on a fake trial, a totally fake trial. We asked the judge if I could take a day off for the funeral of my mother-in-law, who is very close to me. And he said, ‘No’.”

He then continued by stating “These are animals. Can you imagine that?... He said no, we can’t have a day off. These are bad people. These are radical left lunatics and when I hurt me because they think it’s gonna hurt me at the poll so that I can win an election.”

Trump also vowed to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral “one way or another”. “I don’t think that people are going to fall for it. But think of that… my wife was going to be standing at the funeral of her mother who is a very special woman… She’s supposed to stand there alone,” he added.

Internet reacts to Trump’s remarks

Trump’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for urging Iowan voters to caucus for him at any cost even if they are 'sick as a dog'.

“This is Comedy Central,” one user mocked. “Even if you die from voting, it's worth it to him. The level of cringe is off the chart,” the second user blasted.

“What's the difference in getting the votes of people who've been long dead? At least Trumps supporters got a choice. 🤷‍♀️ Just saying!” the third user trolled while the fourth one said “Isn’t it something for voters to choose a candidate who doesn’t care if they live or die? Doesn’t say much for those voters’ character.”

“Yet he wouldn’t hand them a bottle of water in the middle of the desert unless they had cash,” the fifth user fumed. “He doesn’t care if they pass away as long as they vote for him. I do not like this man,” one more said.
