LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hip-hop star Lil Wayne feels overlooked as his career enters a new phase, sharing a candid message about being left out of major music events.
The 43-year-old artist wrote on social media that he has been “uninvited and uninvolved” in high-profile platforms such as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Grammy Awards. He described the experience as “humbling,” while thanking fans for their continued support.
His comments came about a year after the New Orleans native was not chosen to headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown. Fellow musician Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit responded publicly, offering words of encouragement in the post’s comment section.
Lil Wayne feels excluded from music’s biggest events
As Coachella Weekend 2 continues, the New Orleans rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) in the early hours of Saturday, April 18, to address his absence from high-profile events in recent years.
This is not the first time he has voiced concerns about recognition, especially regarding the Grammy Awards. In his latest post, he highlighted a pattern of being excluded. “It’s truly a humbling experience when events like Coachella & the Grammys come around and, like clockwork, I’m uninvited and uninvolved,” Weezy wrote on X.
He followed up by acknowledging his fans, emphasizing their importance in his journey and legacy. “I appreciate my position or space I hold in ya heart & mind if so bc you’re the humbling experience that’s timeless & 4dat I thk u. Iaintshitwithoutu,' he concluded.
The post drew support from Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. “Let’s start our own experience gathering and our own acknowledgment event to welcome all of the uninvited - i’ve got a couple ideas i’ve been working on for quite some while now - happy to elaborate if ever interested - sending good vibes,” Durst wrote as per Billboard.
A look at Wayne’s career highlights
Lil Wayne has never performed a solo set at Coachella. However, he made a surprise appearance during G-Eazy’s set in Indio, California, in 2016.
His recent message also follows earlier remarks about the Grammy Awards. The rapper has previously spoken about recognition for his work, including projects like Tha Carter VI. He last performed at the Grammys in 2023.
Over the years, Lil Wayne has built a catalog of widely recognized tracks, including 'Lollipop', 'A Milli', '6 Foot 7 Foot', and 'How to Love', which helped define his place in hip-hop. He has received five Grammy Awards from 28 nominations throughout his career.
