NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: What looked like a heated exchange between President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump on Marine One this week has taken a different turn after expert lip readers opined.

The video, filmed as Marine One landed on the South Lawn Wednesday night, showed Trump gesturing sharply while Melania shook her head, sparking speculation of a marital spat.

Trump and Melania Trump's discussion linked to UN escalator incident

Lip reader Jeremy Freeman told the Daily Mail that the back-and-forth was about the viral escalator breakdown at UN headquarters in New York the previous day.

“From my interpretation, I don’t think Donald Trump was having a go at Melania Trump — but at the shenanigans at the UN,” Freeman, who has testified as an expert witness in UK court cases, said.

Freeman interpreted Melania saying Trump “just continued” when the escalator abruptly stopped while they were on it.

“It was unbelievable. How can you do that?” Freeman believes the president said to Melania.

He added that Melania told Trump, “Donald, look at me,” before the two exited the helicopter hand in hand.

Donald Trump said UN escalator stoppage was 'absolutely sabotage'

The day before the helicopter clip, Trump accused the United Nations of deliberately shutting down the escalator as soon as he and Melania stepped on it ahead of his speech to the General Assembly.

“It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first,” Trump wrote online after blasting the UN over the issue in his General Assembly speech.

“It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or, it would have been a disaster," Trump added in a long post.

Trump declared it “absolutely sabotage,” citing a Times of London report that UN staffers were overheard joking they might switch off the escalator to force him to walk to the hall.

The United Nations has denied any wrongdoing and said the escalator’s emergency stop may have been “inadvertently triggered” by a videographer working for the Trump administration.

Second lip reader claims Donald Trump vowed to 'challenge them'

Another expert, British lip reader Nicola Hickling, also analyzed the Marine One footage. She said Trump’s words showed he was protective of Melania in the moment.

“I can’t forgive them, they tried to hurt you,” Hickling interpreted Trump as saying. She said Melania responded, “We can’t do this, we should stay safe, you’re not safe.”

According to Hickling, Trump then replied, “They’re done. We must challenge them.”

Clips of the couple’s finger-waving discussion quickly spread online, with many users speculating it was a personal row.
