CHEYENNE, WYOMING: Former GOP Rep Liz Cheney lashed out at former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for hosting an interview allegedly promoting "pro-Nazi propaganda".

The interview on the 'The Tucker Carlson Show' was posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, September 2, and featured Darryl Cooper who hosts the 'Martyr Made' podcast.

Cooper made a series of controversial claims during their discussion, especially regarding World War II and the roles of figures like Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.

Cheney did not hold back in her criticism of the interview.

Darryl Cooper's controversial claims about World War II

Darryl Cooper—whom Tucker Carlson praised as "the most important popular historian working in the United States today"—made a number of assertions that were met with backlash.

The host of the 'Martyr Made' podcast portrayed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill as the "chief villain" of World War II. He argued that Churchill was "primarily responsible" for the war escalating and accused him of rejecting "peace proposals" from Nazi Germany.

"Now, he didn’t kill the most people, he didn’t commit the most atrocities, but I believe...that when you get into it and tell the story right and don’t leave anything out, you see that he was primarily responsible for that war becoming what it did,” Cooper told Carlson.

He further insisted that Hitler sought peace and that Churchill’s refusal to engage with these supposed peace efforts led to the escalation of the war, Newsweek reported.

Another troubling aspect of the interview was Cooper's comments regarding the Holocaust. He suggested that the six million Jews who perished "ended up dead" because Nazi Germany was unprepared to handle the large number of prisoners of war. He claimed the Nazis decided it would be "more humane to just finish them off quickly" due to the food scarcity.

Cooper insisted that criticizing Churchill did not imply that he viewed the Nazis as "the good guys". However, he said Churchill “wanted” to wage war despite Hitler’s apparent peace efforts and that Churchill’s bombers’ actions throughout the war were tantamount to “rank terrorism".

“They were wiping these places out, as gigantic-scale terrorist attacks, the greatest, you know, scale of terrorist attacks you’ve ever seen in world history,” Cooper said.

Liz Cheney, who was ousted from Republican leadership in Congress, quickly denounced the interview.

She posted on X, "Actually, this is pro-Nazi propaganda, including, 'Churchill was the chief villain of WW2' and Hitler 'didn't want to fight.' No serious or honorable person would support or endorse this type of garbage."

The interview quickly gained attention, with the 'Martyr Made' podcast skyrocketing in popularity and reaching the No 2 spot among all Apple podcasts.

Carlson and Cooper received some praise for the interview. X owner Elon Musk reposted the video and described it as "very interesting" and "worth watching," but the post appears to have been removed at the time of publication.

However, the backlash was far more pronounced. Critics on social media accused Carlson and Cooper of attempting to rehabilitate the image of Hitler and drew parallels to former president Donald Trump.

"Why does this not surprise me about the darling of Trump's fascist GOP?" one posted on X.

"Typical Tucker Carlson… Simp for the worst, most inhumane dictator in history!" a second user added.

"Earlier, Tucker interviewed Putin, and let Putin get away with the lie that Poland launched WW2. In fact, Germany launched WW2 after Hitler & Stalin agreed how they would jointly carve up Poland," another claimed on social media.

"Tucker should visit Auschwitz, Mauthausen, Dachau, Treblinka, Sobibor to prove to the World that Hitler was lesser evil," someone else insisted.

"Carlson is very foolish to try to rehabilitate Hitler (Hitler for God's sake). Is he trying to soften public opinion toward authoritarian government by Trump/Maga? Profoundly irresponsible!" read a comment.
