DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA: Former GOP congresswoman Liz Cheney endorsed Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election on Tuesday, September 3, reported The Guardian.

A long critic of the Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump, Cheney stated at an event at Duke University in North Carolina, "I don’t believe we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states."

“And as a conservative, as somebody who believes in and cares about the constitution, I have thought deeply about this and the present danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, I am voting for Kamala Harris," shared the daughter of former Republican vice president Dick Cheney.

Donald Trump's attacks on Liz Cheney

Donald Trump targeted Liz Cheney after she became one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach him over the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. She also served as the vice-chair of the January 6 committee.

In 2022, Cheney lost her seat in the House of Representatives to Trump-backed candidate, Harriet Hageman. Trump renewed calls for Cheney's arrest in March for her role in investigating him over the 2021 riot, according to The Guardian.

Trump wrote that Cheney should “go to jail along with the rest” of the select January 6 House committee in a post on Truth Social on March 17.

He shared an article by his White House aide Kash Patel in a separate post, where he accused Cheney and other committee members of suppressing evidence that “completely exonerates" him.

"She (Cheney) should be prosecuted for what she has done to our country! She illegally destroyed the evidence. Unreal!!!” he wrote in the post.

Internet calls Liz Cheney a 'patriot'

People on the internet hailed Liz Cheney for endorsing Kamala Harris. They took to the comments section of the Mediaite article and lauded the GOP leader for standing against MAGA.

"Liz is a REAL patriot," wrote one social media user.

"She did not break her oath of office or sell her honor and integrity to Trump and his treasonous cabal," shared another.

"Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with a Cheney," one person said, referencing 'Lord of the Rings'.

"Everybody says Harris is the better option this November, and by 'everybody' I mean Trump's entire administration and cabinet," another said.

"Her Republican and conservative views might be open to debate, but not the fact she's a patriot," one individual wrote.

"Stick together patriots. The teams are liberty lovers for Harris vs Trump traitors," cheered another.

"Thank you, Liz Cheney, for putting country over party," expressed a netizen.

"Good for her. The fact that Dick Cheney’s daughter is endorsing Harris should signal to every self-respecting Republican that Trump is really that bad," commented another.
