WASHINGTON, DC: Top Democratic strategist James Carville said he hoped President Joe Biden was not seeking re-election, noting young voters of the party would sit out of the election on November 5.

The veteran, who played a significant role in former President Bill Clinton's first presidential victory in 1992, admitted at the 77 WABC radio's 'The Cats Roundtable' on Sunday, June 9, that he was not "crazy" about Biden aiming for another term.

"I thought that President Biden should not run for re-election. But he did — it's him and Trump — and that's where I am," Carville said, according to the New York Post.

The 81-year-old Biden is currently the oldest person to be in the Oval Office, and if he wins another term, he will be 86 by the tenure's end.

James Carville notes Democrats had eligible younger elected officials to run

Reiterating his opposition to the octogenarian vying for another four years in the White House, the political guru named some of the younger blood in the Democratic Party who were eligible to replace Biden in the 2024 presidential race.

Carville's list included Kentucky Gov Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Gov Josh Shapiro, Maryland Gov Wes Moore, and House Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of Brooklyn.

"The under-appreciated thing about the current state of the Democratic Party is there is enormous [talent] – I mean, there's no Bill Clinton… but … there are any number of current people," the leading strategist told host John Catsimatidis.

"[Beshear] is a good friend of mine. He's in a state where the Democrats couldn't come within 20 points, and he won by 5 or 6 points. There's so much talent, and a lot of it is young and vigorous and energetic," he touted the Kentucky governor.

"I think Hakeem Jeffries is doing a great job… as [House] leader," the political operative continued.

Further into the interview, Carville once again asserted that Biden should have gone for another term but acknowledged that was not the incumbent's choice. The consultant accepted the situation, sharing the philosophy, "I've got to live in the world that I've got to live in, not the world I wanted to live in."

Highlighting the role of young voters in the victory of Clinton and Barack Obama, Carville expressed his worries that young voters were ignorant of the race between Biden and 77-year-old Donald Trump.

He further warned that the mindset of young voters, who "feel like a lot of things are not working for them," could impact the US in the long term.

"They feel like two 80-year-old guys don't mean much to them. I am really afraid that we are going to lose the generation of young people. That's my greatest fear for the United States, that young people are disengaging," he added.

Despite his criticism of Biden's re-election bid, Carville said he would vote for the Democrat in November.

Internet agrees with James Carville's statement

Netizens mirrored the top Democratic consultant's opinion that Biden shouldn't have run for a second presidential term.

One user wrote, "Gee, really? That's some sage level analysis right there."

Another echoed a similar opinion, stating, "I agree and neither should Trump. I am real sure we have much better than 2 old men. But both sides of the media helped put us in this pathetic situation. It is a disappointment that citizens think no one else is qualified. Look what is happening to our country. You never learn."

"Agree. Biden said he’d be one & done then ran again. Dems didn’t want to primary him. In 2020 he picked the wrong VP at his age now people are considering her. As a nonTrump rep I’m disappointed the Dems are positioned this way. It’s dangerous for US. Hard to be optimistic," claimed a third user.

A fourth response read, "No politician should hold office for decades."

Another user said, "I concur. Replace him now. It’s not too late. He’s not well. Retire now for health reasons."

"If he’s the top Dem strategist, why does no one listen to him anymore? The young Turks in the WH are running things and won’t give him the time of day," someone else chimed in.

An individual argued, "Fact - they should of given the opportunity to @RobertKennedyJr but the Dems are literally maniacs in all things."
