WASHINGTON, DC: As the deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas rages on, former President Barack Obama has weighed in, offering his endorsement of President Joe Biden's proposed ceasefire road map.

Obama's support for the plan, which aims to end the fighting and secure the release of hostages, has sparked a wave of backlash and criticism across social media platforms, as reported by The Hill.

Barack Obama emphasizes humanitarian and security benefits of ceasefire plan

In his endorsement, Obama emphasized the humanitarian and security benefits of the plan, describing it as both "realistic" and "just." The plan, according to Obama, offers a pragmatic approach to halt the violence, return hostages, and channel aid to Palestinians suffering from the long-standing war.

Obama highlighted the severe toll of the conflict on both sides, stating, "A ceasefire alone won’t ease the terrible pain of Israelis whose loved ones were butchered or abducted by Hamas, or the Palestinians whose families have been shattered by the subsequent war."

He continued, "It won’t resolve the longstanding conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, or answer contentious issues surrounding a two-state solution or continuing settler activity in the West Bank."

However, he argued that immediate action could save lives and set the stage for a more secure and peaceful future. "A ceasefire can stop the ongoing bloodshed, help families reunite, and allow a surge of humanitarian aid to help desperate, hungry people," penned Obama in a recent post on social platform X.

"It can save lives, here and now – and it can lay the foundation for what will be a long and difficult road to a future in which Israel is secure and at peace with its neighbors, and Palestinians finally have the security, freedom, and self-determination that they have sought for so long," he concluded.

Biden's proposed plan consists of three distinct phases. The first phase involves a six-week ceasefire, during which the Israeli military would withdraw from Gaza, and Hamas would release an initial group of hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

In the second phase, all remaining hostages would be released, and there would be a permanent end to hostilities. The third and final phase would focus on the reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

Barack Obama's endorsement of ceasefire plan sparks backlash online

Obama's endorsement of the ceasefire roadmap sparked a wave of reactions on the internet, with many expressing skepticism and criticism. One Facebook user labeled him as "The puppet master," while another opined, "Terrible president like him should keep his remarks to himself."

Another user pointed out, "The same Obama that approved all those drone strikes killing thousands of civilians." Criticism continued with comments such as, "Obama never fails to be a disgraceful embarrassment," and "Obama failed to enforce his 'Red line' in Syria, because he was weak. Consequently many Muslims died..so please."

Further adding to the outcry, a user remarked, "Funny coming from a career warmonger. Now he suddenly cares about saving lives," while another added, "This coming from Mr. chaos himself." Yet another critic brought up past controversies, stating, "Obama has done enough. We are still paying for his Ukraine fiasco. Stay out of this, clown!"
