Eyewitnesses, including some with medical training, promptly offered assistance to Madden before he was taken to the hospital. Despite their efforts, the toddler remained unresponsive, as reported by Clemens.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on April 16, Madden's parents shared that they were "having a hard time processing this all" and announced their decision to donate his organs.
"His organs are going to help so many other people," their statement noted. "Our little boy is a real-life superhero. We will get to do an honor walk with him to his organ donation surgery. We will give out information when we know as this is a process. We have had so much love and support. We have felt it. We can’t explain how thankful we are for all of your thoughts and prayers. THANK YOU!"
The outpouring of support for Madden's family
The family's grief has been met with an outpouring of support, as evidenced by the overwhelming response to a GoFundMe fundraiser, which has raised over $69,509 as of April 18.
The tribute to Madden highlighted his loving family, which includes his two devoted teacher parents, his 3-year-old sister, and an upcoming addition to the family due in August.
"Please help us support Madden and his family during this time and please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you," the fundraiser said.
