Madison Summerville: Georgia mother dies while trying to rescue her 3 children from their burning home
ATLANTA, GEORGIA: A young mother has tragically lost her life as she attempted to rescue her three children from their burning home in Georgia. Madison Summerville, 23, sprang into action on Thursday, February 15, after noticing her home was on fire, according to her sister Chasidy Summerville, who created a GoFundMe campaign after the deadly blaze.
Spalding County fire officials said when they arrived at the scene, they found the home fully engulfed in flames, ABC-affiliate WSB-TV reported. Spalding County Fire Marshal Rocky White said the woman helped one of her children out of the home on Old Atlanta Road while neighbors helped the other two children escape, according to NBC affiliate WXIA-TV.
Madison Summerville is described as 'an amazing mother'
Chasidy described Madison as “an amazing mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend” who “was an all around bubbly person who would make you laugh instantly.” In addition to saving her three children from the blaze, Madison also helped save eight more lives by donating her organs, Chasidy added in her tribute.
“She lived a beautiful life,” Chasidy wrote in the description of the GoFundMe campaign.
Madison Summerville's three children were airlifted to hospital
Madison’s three children were airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta after being pulled from the burning building, according to WSB-TV. Their conditions have not been released. Amber Morris, Madison's sister-in-law, said the Griffin woman’s three children will now be cared for by her brother who is raising two children of his own, WXIA-TV reported.
"She's a hero, and that's what she'll forever be," Morris said. She also said Madison’s brother is looking for those who helped save the children from the fire. “If it wasn't for them, there's no telling how bad this would be,” she added. As of Monday afternoon, February 19, more than $3,800 has been raised via GoFundMe to support Madison’s family.

Meaww previously reported that a Texas mother, who rescued her two children from a burning house, tragically lost her life after she went back to save her infant in a failed attempt as the child did not survive.
According to a statement posted on X, the Houston Fire Department said that it responded to a home on Heaney Drive “after receiving reports of a house on fire" early Saturday morning, February 3. Mayor John Whitmire said on social media that the mother, identified as 31-year-old Giovanna Cabrera, “rescued two of her children” from the blaze before going back to try and save her baby boy.
The woman re-entered the home to try and “rescue her child from the flames,” but both died in the blaze, HFD Chief Samuel Peña said in a post on X. “Our prayers & condolences to the family🙏🏽,” the fire chief added. Besides the mother, police have identified the one-year-old son as Gabriel, according to ABC-affiliate KTRK-TV and CBS-affiliate KHOU.
