WASHINGTON, DC: Jason Bateman is facing backlash as he joins a lineup of notable comedians in endorsing Kamala Harris.

The actor will participate in the upcoming ‘Comics for Kamala’ virtual fundraiser, an event organized to boost Harris' campaign.

Jason Bateman's endorsement sparks social media backlash

Following Bateman’s endorsement, a Twitter post declared, “BREAKING: Jason Bateman has announced he is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. This is awesome.”

The reaction on social media has been swift and mocking, with many users taking the opportunity to poke fun at Bateman’s political stance.

Star-studded virtual fundraiser for Kamala Harris

According to Deadline, the virtual fundraiser, scheduled for the upcoming Monday at 8 pm ET, will feature an array of Hollywood talent. Among those who will be appearing on the Zoom call are Ben Stiller, Patton Oswalt, Kathy Griffin, and Rosie O’Donnell.

Also joining the event will be Cecily Strong, Jon Hamm, Kathryn Hahn, Ed Helms, John Stamos, Max Greenfield, Tom Arnold, Matt Friend, Nick Offerman, Tim Heidecker, and Chris Messina.

Rep Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is behind the event, having collaborated with Dani Zoldan, owner of Stand Up New York, and producer Jamie Patricof to set it up.

“President Biden so graciously stepping aside and passing the torch has just energized so many people,” a statement that runs counter to various reports suggesting that pressure from Democratic elites and donors was behind Biden’s withdrawal from the race.

Fundraiser free but donations encouraged

Although the fundraiser will be free of charge, attendees will be encouraged to make donations. This event follows a recent “White Dudes for Harris” fundraiser that amassed over $4 million, featuring celebrities like Jeff Bridges, Mark Hamill, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The Hollywood community had been less enthusiastic about Joe Biden even before his recent debate performance, which many believe contributed to his withdrawal from the presidential race.

Since Biden's exit, there has been a noticeable push from Hollywood to promote Kamala Harris, often glossing over her shortcomings as vice president, including her struggles with managing the southern border, which has seen an influx of millions of undocumented immigrants.
