'Major war is over': Sen Marshall calls US strikes on Iran a 'mop-up' even as the ceasefire breaks
NOBLES: If the US is still bombing Iran 120 days into this conflict, how can the Trump administration credibly say the war is over?

WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the escalating hostilities between the US and Iran after Tehran targeted a commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz, Sen Roger Marshall on Sunday, June 28, said that the war is over and it is currently in “a mop-up operation.”
The exchange of attacks between the US and Iran renewed after Iranian forces launched drone attacks on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, which US officials cited as the trigger for the renewed fighting.
Roger Marshall calls Iran conflict a 'mop-up operation' now
Appearing on NBC News’ ‘Meet the Press’, Marshall discussed the status of the war between the US and Iran, particularly given the new conflict.
“The major war is over, and think of this as almost just a mop-up operation,” Marshall told the outlet. “We have to press them if they strike us. We have to strike them back by ten.”
Marshall made the remarks a week after the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict.
Despite the agreement, the US launched retaliatory strikes on Iran twice in two days. The first came after Iran attacked a commercial ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The second followed Iran's strike on what the Pentagon described as “targets linked to the American aggressor forces” in the region.
Marshall also pointed to the Israel-Lebanon peace framework brokered by Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a sign that the US was making progress toward its goals, which he summarized as: “No nukes for Iran, no forever wars. Bring the cost of gas and grocery down.”

The Kansas senator added, “Let’s root for the Trump team for once, rather than try to tear them down. So I think we’re doing what we need to do, making great progress here, and again working toward those goals.”
Pressed on whether the war was actually over, Marshall said, “I’m asking America to hang in there. This is a, this is a détente. This is a ceasefire, and yeah, they broke the ceasefire. We have to answer that as well.”
The Kansas senator also dismissed concerns that the president was backing down from his promises to make life more affordable for Americans by halting the signing of a major bipartisan housing affordability bill.
“Housing is part of the puzzle, but this is classic Donald Trump negotiation style,” Marshall said. “He’s going to grab every leverage point he can, and this is one to get the bigger priority to cross the finish line, and that’s election integrity.”
