Marjorie Taylor Greene predicts Trump’s economic denials could cost GOP midterm majority in 2026
Asked if the issue of affordability could cost the GOP its majority next year, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told @NikolenDC she doesn't believe the party is doing enough to embrace a message of economic populism.

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a warning to President Donald Trump, saying that his refusal to acknowledge economic realities could cost the GOP its majority in the 2026 midterms.
She told CBS News she was "starting to feel very sorry" for Trump, adding that his attacks on her reflected poorly on him. The tension between them began when Greene broke with Trump over the cost-of-living crisis and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Marjorie Taylor Greene believes 'Republicans will lose the midterms'
During the interview, Greene said, "I do believe at this time that Republicans will lose the midterms, and I think that’s unfortunate. I very much wanted to be part of a Republican majority in Congress that solved problems for the American people, that delivered what we promised to America."
Her interview was released a day after Donald Trump sat down with Dasha Burns on 'The Conversation' podcast, where he rated his economic performance as “A-plus-plus-plus-plus-plus."

Greene emphasized that Trump needed to recognize the realities most Americans face. "The president needs to be aware that he’s a billionaire president of the United States. You can’t gaslight people and tell them that their bills are affordable, and you can’t tell them that the economy is in A-plus-plus-plus. You just can’t do that, and I think it’s insulting to people’s intelligence," she said.

Previously, Greene predicted midterm losses when she announced plans to resign from Congress in January 2026. "I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms," she wrote on X in November.
Donald Trump launches unprompted attack on Marjorie Taylor Greene
On December 9, Trump launched an unprompted attack on Greene during an interview with Politico, despite the question focusing on foreign policy.
"I’ve watched stupid people like Marjorie Traitor Greene, or some people call her Taylor Greene. Some people call her Taylor Brown because green sometimes turns to brown. She’s a LOW IQ person! She was loyal until I wasn’t able to answer her phone calls," Trump said.

He also accused Greene of mischaracterizing his priorities, adding, "When you know people with low IQs, like Marjorie Taylor Greene—she’s a low IQ person—when she says it’s too much, she doesn’t understand."
Trump noted the many demands on him: "You can’t call me three times a day. I have to juggle over 200 congressmen, 53 senators, 212 countries, and a family."
