WASHINGTON, DC: Georgia Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene found herself at the center of social media ridicule after promoting raw milk consumption on X (formerly Twitter).

The Republican lawmaker shared a post urging Americans to drink raw milk, which has been linked to serious health risks, including serious foodborne illnesses, as per The New Republic.

In her post, Greene enthusiastically declared, "Raw Milk does a body good. Make America Healthy Again!" alongside a photo of a mason jar filled with raw milk.

CDC recommends against consuming raw milk

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has long maintained that pasteurization is essential for milk safety, warning that consuming raw milk can lead to illnesses caused by harmful bacteria.

In recent years, the consumption of raw milk has become a controversial topic as some people argue it provides more health benefits than pasteurized milk.

Raw milk advocates claim that the unprocessed product retains beneficial enzymes and nutrients, while critics argue that the health risks far outweigh any potential benefits.

The CDC clearly states that pasteurization is crucial because it kills harmful germs that can cause serious foodborne illnesses, including Campylobacter, Cryptosporidium, E coli, Listeria, and Salmonella.

These pathogens are particularly dangerous to vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Despite these warnings, raw milk has gained popularity, particularly in certain political and social circles.

Politico reported in March that several states, including Iowa, Montana, North Dakota, Alaska, Georgia, and Wyoming, have passed laws allowing the sale of raw milk since 2020.

As the appeal of raw milk grows among some Americans, especially those on the far right, concerns about public health have also risen.

An FDA study, which examined data from 2016 to 2019, found that 4.4 percent of Americans had consumed raw milk within the past year. That figure is expected to be higher today as distrust in government institutions has led some to reject food safety guidelines in favor of less regulated, more "natural" options.

The community note under Greene's post pointed out that drinking raw milk can lead to several foodborne illnesses, including infections that could result in severe complications or even death.

Marjorie Taylor Greene ridiculed for endorsing consumption of raw milk

Unsurprisingly, Marjorie Taylor Greene's endorsement of raw milk was met with widespread ridicule on social media.

One remarked, "Getting E.coli, salmonella and listeria to OWN THE LIBS," and another said, "I just can't. The stupid is just dripping off this lady."

"Oh the secret to stupidity," wrote a person, while someone else stated, "Giving yourself worms and kidney failure to own the libs."

"Milk is pasteurized for a reason, that's how worms literally get in your brain. That also explains a lot," quipped one more. Another person wrote, "The raw milk warms took over her brain and are tweeting. They are recruiting more worms and are attempting to take over the world."

An individual snarked, "You should start drinking unfiltered water next — just dip a bucket in the nearest creek or river and quench your thirst. What’s the worst that could happen?"

"Pasteurization is a conspiracy to make MAGA less healthy!" quipped a netizen.
