LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: In a fervent rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday, June 9, Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) made headlines by comparing former President Donald Trump to Jesus Christ.

The event, marked by high temperatures and fiery speeches, was a testament to the intense support Trump continues to garner despite his ongoing legal troubles.

The rally was a response to Trump's conviction last month by a Manhattan jury, which found him guilty of 34 counts of fabricating business records related to hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

The former president has been vocal about his intent to appeal the conviction, calling for the Supreme Court to intervene and criticizing Judge Juan Merchan as biased.

Rep Greene did not hold back during her speech, vehemently denouncing the conviction as "bulls**t". She declared that she and other MAGA supporters would not tolerate the verdict.

"Oh, it is bulls**t. And you want to know something? We are going to tolerate it. The Democrats and the fake news media want to constantly talk about. 'Oh, President Trump is a convicted felon,'" Greene told the crowd.

Her comparison of Trump to Jesus Christ was particularly controversial. "Well, you want to know something? The man that I worship is also a convicted felon. And he was murdered on a Roman cross. We’ve seen political corruption. We have seen this throughout history. This is nothing new," she added.

This is not the first time Greene has likened Trump to Jesus.

In April of last year, on the day of Trump’s arrest in New York, she told Right Side Broadcasting Network, "Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus — Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government."

Another notable speaker at Sunday's rally, Nevada Republican Party Chair Michael McDonald, took the praise for Trump to divine heights. “What more can be said than, thank God we’re here in Sunset Park to worship and bring back the greatest president we’ve ever known in our generation,” McDonald proclaimed.

Despite the intense support, attendees at the rally faced challenging conditions. Las Vegas temperatures soared above 100 degrees, with many seats located in areas lacking shade.

Rally organizers handed out water bottles to prevent dehydration, and the campaign assured The Washington Post that ample medical staff would be present. Additionally, limited tent space with shade and air conditioning was available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The extreme temperatures at the rally are part of a broader pattern of unusually warm weather in the southwestern United States, attributed to human-caused climate change, according to Climate Central. Trump, however, has consistently denied the impact of climate change.

According to Rolling Stone, the former president's denialism contrasts sharply with the realities on the ground, as evidenced by the extreme heat conditions at Trump’s previous rally in Phoenix, Arizona, where temperatures reached 110 degrees, resulting in 11 people being hospitalized for heat exhaustion.

Marjorie Taylor Greene trolled on social media

Greene’s comparison of Trump to Jesus did not go unnoticed on social media. The lawmaker faced widespread ridicule and mockery for her comments.

"Comparing Trump to Jesus is so antithetical to anything Christianity stands for," one posted on X.

"I’ve read the Bible through a few times, and I haven’t found any reference to Christ being brought before Pilate for paying hush money to an adult film worker," another wrote.

"She never fails to show her stupidity," a comment read.

"Sacrilegious to the core AND a phony Christian. Her voters should be ashamed," someone else chimed in.

"Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer were also convicted felons. Are you gonna worship them, comrade Majorie?" another pointedly asked.
