WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump targeted President Joe Biden, criticizing his handling of inflation while jokingly suggesting his successor was attributing the "economic disaster" to the diminishing size of Snickers Bars, reported The Hill.

The soon-to-be official GOP presidential nominee criticized his Democratic opponent for blaming "corporate greed" as the reason behind continuing high prices.

Trump's criticism stemmed after Biden claimed in a recent CNN interview that people "have the money to spend," but it angered them that they had to spend more. The President called out "corporate greed" because of which people were getting "20% less for the same price". He added that he was working to deal with what he called "shrinkflation".

Trump lashes out at Biden's stance on inflation

"Unbelievably, Crooked Joe went on television last week and proclaimed in an interview that Americans can actually AFFORD his brutal inflation tax — he declared that families QUOTE 'have the money to spend," and then Biden blamed his economic disaster on companies shrinking the size of their Snickers bars," Trump wrote on his Truth Social on Friday, May 17.

The GOP White House hopeful argued Americans were struggling to make ends meet because Biden was the "worst, most incompetent, most corrupt president in the history of our country", and not because they were buying "TOO MANY SNICKERS BARS."

The inflation rate dropped to 3.4% in April, as per data published by the Labor Department, and grocery prices fell for the first time in a year. However, an early-month Gallup poll found that American voters considered inflation "the most important financial problem facing" their families.

As Biden and Trump campaign neck-and-neck for a highly likely rematch in November, many polls suggested that Americans chose the 45th president over the incumbent in matters like economy and inflation handling.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released this month noted about 46% of voters trusted Trump on the economy, while Biden managed to secure the trust of only 32%.

In another Truth Social post, the real estate mogul also slammed Biden's inflation tax, claiming it made it impossible for young Americans "to buy a home, a car, or even make rent." He asserted high inflation could lead to high interest and mortgage rates, which, according to Trump, would be "death for the American Dream".

The former president concluded Americans could not afford his Democratic opponent's "inflation nightmare" and four more years of him.

Internet blasts Trump as he mocks Biden's take on inflation

Social media users slammed Trump for blaming Biden's take on inflation, linking it to shrinking Snickers Bars. Many pointed out that the former president's tax cuts led to the current situation.

One user considered the criticism "Beyond clueless."

Meanwhile, another labeled it "Idiocy."

"Inflations on you @realDonaldTrump for delaying on Covid, for overspending, and your tax cuts," a third user fumed.

A fourth response read, "… Because companies have been raising their prices enormously even though they have record-breaking profits. But of course, you wouldn’t know that."

Another person asked, "Donald when are you going to discuss the real issues facing the country of which you are one?"

Someone else argued, "You caused almost half of the inflation! Minimum wage was held down because immigrants were the only ones working that wage. So when you banned them Americans refused to work at the low wage rate. Then your handling of the pandemic made it worse. The rest is corporate greed!!

An outraged individual wrote, "It's call corporate price gouging, and we know why they do it !! If anyone's to blame it's and your tax breaks for the rich!!! So you can talk smack all day nothing will change my mind about you!!"

"You inherited a great economy from Obama and you trashed it by the end of your term," another user added.
