TAMPA, FLORIDA: In an impassioned speech delivered in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, April 24, President Joe Biden not only touted his lead in recent polls but also took a stand against Florida's contentious abortion ban, directly targeting former President Donald Trump for the legislation.

The event, held at Hillsborough Community College's Dale Mabry Campus, saw Biden touch on various issues, while also encapsulating the essence of his reelection campaign.

Joe Biden says he's in 'pretty good shape' in polls

Biden kicked off his address by boasting about his lead in national polls, asserting, "Momentum is in our favor."

The commander-in-chief stressed the significance of this momentum shift, citing specific instances where his campaign surged ahead in major polls.

"I think — you know, whether the press thinks I’m good, bad, or indifferent, I think they acknowledge that there’s less than truth that comes out of the other guy’s mouth," Biden said of Trump. "And, you know, you wouldn’t know it from what you read and hear, but, you know, we’re in pretty good shape in the polls."

"The — and I know you’re all activists, so that’s why I’m bothering to tell you this: The polls don’t win you an election," he noted. "But in the last 23 national polls, I’ve been ahead in 10 of them, Trump has been ahead in 8, and we’ve been tied in 5. More importantly, the momentum is clearly in our — our favor."

Biden highlighted reported wins in key national polls, "For example, we moved eight points in the latest Marquette poll and seven points in the Echelon poll. And the Marist Poll now has us up by three nationwide."

"The point I’m making is, people are beginning to listen," he added. "This is a time people begin to focus and listen. They have generic impressions up to now, but now they’re l- they’re listening. And they’re beginning to listen."

The 81-year-old's enthusiasm was palpable as he detailed the efforts of his campaign, highlighting the establishment of offices across the nation, with specific emphasis on Florida.

However, Biden fumbled for his notes as he sought confirmation on the number of campaign offices. "And so, this campaign — how many offices have we opened now, total?" he asked, before a nearby aide responded, "A hundred and thirty-three."

Biden continued to express optimism in securing another four years in the White House. "But, you know, I know we can do this, but I’ve never been more optimistic," the president said. "I know — I’ve been saying this for a long time: I’ve never been more optimistic about America than I am today."

Internet says Joe Biden spreading 'misinformation'

However, Biden's declarations weren't immune to criticism, as social media trolls seized the opportunity to deride the President's remarks on the supposed "momentum" in his favor.

"The only thing gaining momentum is Biden's one-way trip to mental incapacity," one quipped on X.

"And his uncle was really eaten by cannibals too, right? Whenever Biden opens his mouth he lies with impunity," another commented.

"Biden spreading misinformation now Lol?" someone else wrote, citing recent polling data.

"Biden doesn't know where he is most of the time," another offered.

Biden addressed the looming specter of Florida's stringent abortion ban, set to take effect after just six weeks of pregnancy.

“Let’s be real clear, there’s one person responsible for this nightmare, and he acknowledges and brags about it — Donald Trump,” he said to a small crowd gathered in the college gymnasium. “Well, now Trump says the law is ‘working the way that it’s supposed to.’”

Drawing parallels to the recent US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women's Health Organization, which overturned Roe v Wade, Biden underscored the potential impact of Trump's policies on reproductive rights.

“He described the Dobbs decision as a miracle,” Biden said of Trump. “Maybe it comes from that Bible he’s trying to sell.”

“Next week one of the nation’s most extreme anti-abortion laws is going to take effect here in Florida,” he continued. “It criminalizes reproductive healthcare before a woman even knows that they are pregnant,” he added.

Biden concluded by calling upon the audience to participate in the upcoming elections to safeguard fundamental liberties. “This November, you can add Florida to that list,” he declared, adding, “Are you ready to do that? You’ve gotta show up to vote," as quoted by Michigan Advance.
