NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene called for former president Donald Trump's trial to be moved out of Washington, DC on March 4, 2024.

In the tweet, she also pushed for the Matthew Lawrence Perna Act of 2024, which she introduced on March 1 to reform the similarly named legislature of 2022 which prohibited "the detention of individuals for nonviolent criminal offenses arising out of political protest activities."

The reforms in the latest Act include ensuring fair and speedy trials, limiting government surveillance and investigation, mandating consistent sentencing guidelines, and permitting transfer of venue in criminal trials for nonviolent political protestors in Washington, DC.

The Georgia representative's tweet comes in light of Trump losing the first GOP primary in 2024 in DC the previous day, receiving only 33% of votes. It also marked the first win for former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley in the primaries, Trump's last remaining Republican competitor.

Taking to the social media platform, Greene shared a screengrab of a tweet that showed the results of the GOP primary in DC, along with the text, "In a city of 700,000, Donald Trump got 676 votes in the GOP primary. A tough jury pool..."

According to the GOP chair in the district, Patrick Mara, the expected turnout at DC primaries was low, so it was always open to lots of possibilities with thin margins. This year, the number of Republicans who voted were just over 2,000.

Greene further wrote in her post, "This is why the Matthew Perna Act is so important for President Trump and J6 defendants to move trials out of DC in order to receive a fair trial. You can’t find a jury of your peers in DC if you are a Republican and Nikki Haley no longer counts!"

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's tweet

Both Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene were trolled online as a result of the latter's post.

"If you want to avoid a DC jury, don't commit crimes in DC. It's as simple as that," wrote a user.

"Awww too bad, Donny should have checked what venue he was in before he crimed. That's criminal 101," jibed another.

"Again @RepMTG has no idea what jury of your peers means. I don't know how or why she is still a Representative," commented a third.

"So, you want to pick and choose a jury based on if they own a MAGA hat or not? Yeah, that’s not biased at all…" mocked a fourth.

"Every time Trump gets hammered by an opponent…. you whine and cry wolf…" noted a fifth.
