Marjorie Taylor Greene blasted as she calls for Americans to fly flags upside down to protest 'war' on Trump

WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene urged all Americans to fly their flags upside down in a social media post on Wednesday, May 22.

This controversial call to action comes amid Donald Trump's hush money trial and new developments in his classified documents case which detailed the use of force during August 2022 Mar-a-Lago searches. 

It also aimed to criticize the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) efforts to hold Donald Trump and others accountable for their alleged roles in the January 6 Capitol riot.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s response to Samuel Alito’s flag controversy

Greene’s comments were a response to the backlash faced by conservative Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.

The New York Times published a photo of an upside-down American flag outside Alito’s Virginia home, taken on January 17, 2021.

This was 11 days after Trump’s supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.

Alito stated that he had “no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag” and that his wife had “briefly” put up the inverted flag "in response to a neighbor’s use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs," reports Newsweek.

The inverted flag is a symbol of the "Stop the Steal" movement of former president Trump's supporters who falsely claimed that there was widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Marjorie Taylor Greene says Democrats have declared war on them 

On X (formerly Twitter), Greene, a Georgia Republican, wrote: “Democrats declared war on us and weaponized the full power of the justice system the minute they took power.”

“They are trying to lock Trump up for life, are prosecuting over 400 Republicans across the country for fighting for election integrity in 2020, and are putting thousands of people in jail for protesting the 2020 election on January 6, 2020," she added to the post.

"Now Democrats are going after Justice Alito for an upside down flag being flown at his house. We should all be flying the flag upside down!!!" she concluded the post. 

Democrat lawmaker introduced a resolution to censure Samuel Alito 

Republicans critical of Trump have also criticized Alito for the inverted flag. Still, on Wednesday, May 22, a Tennessee Democrat introduced a resolution in the House to censure Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito.

Steve Cohen, in a statement, said that by flying the inverted flag at his residence, Alito “publicly engaged in political activity and demonstrated his bias, a breach of judicial ethics, and called into question Supreme Court impartiality.”

"He literally flew a flag in front of his house showing the world he supported the January 6th insurrectionists," Cohen said on Tuesday, May 21, as he introduced his resolution.

"What’s more, he continues to participate in litigation directly related to the 2020 election and the Insurrection, in direct violation of the federal recusal statute and the Supreme Court’s own ethics rules," he added.

The resolution is unlikely to advance in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, but a letter urging Alito to recuse himself from all January 6 related cases gained signatures from 45 Democrats in the chamber on Tuesday, May 21, The Hill reported. 

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's call for action 

There were mixed reactions to Greene's call for action in an X post where she detailed there were plots about Trump being imprisoned for life while retreating attorney General Merrick Garlands "green light to kill anyone that stood in the way."

She claimed the FBI 'stole' the former president's items, including his passport and medical records while "confiscating documents that NARA had approved, packed, and delivered to MAL."

"The FBI then staged the scene and took pictures that Jack Smith wrongfully used in court to frame Pres Trump in the fake documents lawfare case, while giving Biden a full pass on his decades worth of classified docs all over the place including sloppily by his corvette in his garage that anyone could steal," she wrote on X. 

She also said that Democrats declared war and "weaponized the full power of the justice system the minute they took power."

"Nothing was stolen. There was a legal warrant. Stop lying," reacted one user to her post on X. "Don’t you get tired of being a clown," wrote another. 

"Oh shut your mouth, Bigfoot. Everything you say is a lie," one more wrote. Yet one suggested, "All flags should be upside down. We are in distress."

"This faux outrage is nothing but a distraction and fundraising scheme. If only you put this much time and energy into doing your actual job," one commented. 

"Thank you for being America first and being strong in the face of so many lies. It is really important in these days of RINOS to know there are still a few true conservatives," one supporter wrote. 

"When you steal our country’s nuclear secrets you put yourself and everyone around you in danger. Trump is an idiot for not knowing that… and so are you Space Laser Brain," one lashed out.
