WASHINGTON, DC: For decades, Luke Skywalker unapologetically battled the right in the 'Star Wars' universe. But the man behind the legendary Jedi seemed to take a while to recognize the mistakes he believed he made in the real world.

The ‘Star Wars’ star Mark Hamill has apologised after finding himself in hot water after sharing an AI-generated image showing President Donald Trump dead in the grave.

The image carried the caption “if only” and featured a gravestone listing Trump’s death year as 2024, the same year the Republican narrowly survived an assassination attempt while campaigning.

“He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes,” Hamill wrote in an accompanying post. “Long enough to realize he'll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore. #don_TheCON,” the caption continued.

Mark Hamill offers clarification

Hamill’s controversial post sparked a fierce backlash, with White House’s Rapid Response 47 communications account took to X, sharing a screenshot of the actor’s post and calling him “one sick individual.”

“These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves,” the post read.

The administration then linked Hamill’s post to the climate of political violence surrounding Trump. “This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President,” it continued.

Following the backlash, the 'Star Wars' actor deleted the post and issued a clarification. “Accurate Edit for Clarity: ‘He should live long enough to…be held accountable for his…crimes,’” Hamill, 74, wrote via BlueSky on Thursday, May 7.

“Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologize if you found the image inappropriate. 💙-mh,” the post continued.

He also reposted his original comments, as well as a new photo of the president with some wild hair.

Mark Hamill’s long feud with Donald Trump

Over the years, Hamill has emerged as a relentless and vocal opponent of Donald Trump. He is time and again seen taking brutal jabs at the President.

During a June 2025 appearance on 'The View,' the actor was asked to comment on an AI image the president posted of himself celebrating May the 4th.

“I don’t get angry. I don’t drop f bombs. I know I have a lot of kids that follow me,” Hamil explained to the cohosts. “I think you have to have fun with it, mock him. That’s the kryptonite to malignant narcissists.”

Following Donald Trump’s return to the White House for a second term, Hamill admitted he had considered leaving the United States altogether. In the end, however, the actor chose to remain, saying he still believed “there are more honest, decent people than there are the MAGA crowd.”
