WASHINGTON, DC: Meghan McCain, daughter of late Republican Senator John McCain, faced trolling on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after she called Hunter Biden a "nepo baby" after he received a presidential pardon from his father on Sunday, December 1.

Outgoing President Joe Biden pardoned the first son for all offenses he "committed or may have committed or taken part in" from January 2014 to December 2024, as per the Daily Beast. Hunter was due to face sentencing for his convictions in federal gun and tax evasion charges.

Biden's move came as a surprise to many, as the 82-year-old incumbent had repeatedly stated ahead of the 2024 general election that he would respect the jury's decision and promised not to pardon his son as "no one is above the law."

However, the POTUS stated on Sunday that he witnessed his son "being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted" unlike other defendants facing similar charges.

"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong," he added in his statement.

Taking to X, Meghan McCain mocked Joe Biden for backtracking on his promise to not interfere with the convictions of his son, Hunter Biden, claiming that exempting his son from facing the consequences for his actions would send a "helluva" message to his supporters at the dusk of his presidency.

"No one is above the law except the President's nepo baby is a helluva parting message for democrats," she wrote in the post.

However, netizens were quick to point out that the professional success that Meghan experienced as a political commentator in her own life was partly because she had a prominent Senator as her father.

Following John's unsuccessful run for the White House in 2008, Meghan began her career, launching a blog about life on the campaign trail.

She went on to work for a number of news organizations as a columnist and commentator, including the Daily Beast, ABC News, Fox News, and MSNBC. From 2017 to 2021, the 40-year-old served as a co-host on ABC's 'The View', which she left after a heated on-air fight with Joy Behar.

Internet calls out Meghan McCain's hypocrisy

Netizens were quick to show Meghan McCain the mirror after she referred to Hunter Biden as a "nepo baby."

One wrote, "Said the nepo baby. Face it Meghan no one would have a clue who you are if it wasn’t for your last name. It certainly isn’t your talent, or lack of, that got you in the news."

Another said, "Lol you throwing around the nepo baby label," with a person adding, "Meghan, your claim to fame is being the daughter of an American hero, patriot, and relatively well liked politician. Maybe sit this one out?"

"Says the no talent hack who got on The View because of your parents. Pick a lane of who you're gonna hate today," jibed an individual.

"Your entire career is nepotism, sis," remarked one more. "Oh My God Meghan McCain calling someone a nepo baby is just," mocked yet another, adding a funny GIF.

Another person asked, "Do you think your dad would have done the same for you?"
