TUCSON, ARIZONA: In a heartfelt reply to former President Barack Obama's recent homage to her father, Meghan McCain highlighted the significance of truthfully commemorating Senator John McCain's legacy.

At an Arizona event, Obama praised the late senator for his bipartisan approach and commitment to serving the public.

Meghan McCain highlights the need for a genuine tribute to her father's legacy

Meghan McCain commended Barack Obama's remarks in Tucson but strongly criticized Kamala Harris for sharing what she deemed an "obscure" story about her father, accusing Democrats of distorting her father's legacy to serve a political narrative.

Meghan expressed her views on platform X, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging her father's contributions while also stressing the need to avoid idealizing a romance that, according to her father, was not genuine.

She underscored the necessity of honoring John McCain's legacy in a manner that accurately represents his authentic values and principles.

Her post read, "This is how you talk about my dad while honoring his legacy. Not romanticizing a relationship that didn’t exist - as he said. Thank you for the kind words President Obama."

Her comments came as Obama honored the late Republican senator's legacy, noting he would not "over-romanticize" their relationship as former presidential rivals while emphasizing that some values go beyond party lines.

“Being here in Tucson, I’m thinking about my friend John McCain," Obama spoke at the event held on the University of Arizona campus.

"Now, I don’t want to over romanticize our relationship. John was conservative, to put it mildly. Ran against me in 2008, talked about me on the campaign trail. But you know what? He understood that some values transcend party,” Obama remarked. "He didn’t demonize his political opponents."

Barack Obama honors John McCain's character and commitment to truth in politics

Barack Obama, the Democratic president who served two terms and defeated McCain in the race for the White House 16 years ago, visited Arizona to support Kamala Harris' campaign.

During his time on stage, he devoted much of his speech to criticizing the "pretend tough guy" political style of former President Donald Trump.

Obama drew a contrast with Trump's approach by referencing a notable incident from his 2008 campaign. During a McCain town hall, a woman expressed distrust in Obama, mistakenly calling him "an Arab."

The Arizona senator took the microphone and said, "No ma'am," dismissing her comments while asserting that Obama was a “decent family man” with whom he simply had “disagreements.”

“He knew that if we get in the habit, if we get in the habit of bending the truth to suit political expediency or party orthodoxy, our democracy can’t work,” Obama said. “The man had character.”

Meghan McCain stated she will disclose her father's opinions about Kamala Harris

Earlier this month, Meghan McCain voiced her frustration over Democrats allegedly distorting her late father Senator John McCain's legacy for political gain, especially after Kamala Harris shared a story about him.

She cautioned that she might disclose his true opinions about Harris, stressing her belief that Democrats are misrepresenting his views to further their agenda.

She voiced her outrage on X writing, "Now, I know democrats want to reinvent history and turn my Dad into any illusion you guys need him to be depending on the political moment you need to bastardize his memory for… But please don’t make me start sharing what I remember him ACTUALLY saying about Kamala Harris…."

Internet claims John McCain was a democrat

As soon as Meghan McCain's comments emerged on social media, users rallied against her statements, attempting to rationalize them.

A user wrote, "But it’s not Harris who is doing that about your dad so idk why you threatened to sully her over it."

Another added, "Sorry Meg but your dad, rest his soul, would be supporting @KamalaHarris. He was very collegial in the Senate, both sides as you know, and likely said exactly the words Harris said. That's how you get along in the Senate, at least it was in the days of good men like your dad."

The third commentator remarked, "I'm not sure what you have been hearing but thats what we've been saying. Your dad would've supported Harris. AND remained a republican in order to take back the party."

"Your daddy was a Democrat just like you and your mommy," a supporter of the Democratic Party wrote.

Some have criticized John McCain, labeling him a "traitor."

A person remarked, "Your father was a traitor to this country that became famous for failing as a soldier."

Another chimed in, "John McCain betrayed his base."
