PHOENIX, ARIZONA: JD Vance made remarks about why the late Senator John McCain would not have backed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 race.

Although Vance admitted he never met John McCain, he expressed confidence that the late senator would not support Democratic presidential nominee Harris' candidacy if he were alive today.

JD Vance criticizes Kamala Harris' policies

Speaking to a crowd at a rally in Phoenix, JD Vance highlighted the disagreements between Donald Trump and John McCain but suggested that McCain would have opposed Harris' policies.

"I do not believe for a second that if John McCain were alive today and he sees what's going on at the American Southern border, that he would support Kamala Harris and all the destruction that she's brought," said Vance.

JD Vance responds to Jimmy McCain’s endorsement of Kamala Harris

JD Vance made the comments as a response to a local reporter's question about Jimmy McCain, the youngest son of John and Cindy McCain, who recently confirmed he would vote for Harris in the November election.

Dismissed the significance of family endorsements, the Ohio senator said, "I mean, look, who cares what somebody's family thinks about a presidential race. I care about what these people care about."

Donald Trump and John McCain’s strained relationship

During the Arizona rally, JD Vance also addressed the past tensions between Donald Trump and John McCain.

"He's a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured," Trump said of McCain in 2015.

Despite the controversial remarks, Vance claimed that both Trump and McCain were capable of putting personal grievances aside for the greater good of the country.

"One of the things I love about Donald Trump—and I never knew John McCain, but I suspect that one of the things that I would have loved about John McCain is that they didn't let their personal grievances get in the way of serving the country," said Vance, reported ABC News.

JD Vance slammed for comment on why late John McCain would disagree with Kamala Harris

As JD Vance told the Arizona crowd that late John McCain would not have supported Kamala Harris, netizens slammed the Ohio senator's opinion.

One user on X wrote, "How dare JD Vance had the Kahuna's to talk about John McCain how he felt about Harris when he never even met the man the Man's dead he's one of our heroes that somebody wants to put words into his mouth without him being here to counter it."



 

"Hey @JDVance .oh yes he would have...how arrogant of you... .JD Vance tells Arizona crowd late Sen. John McCain wouldn’t have supported Harris," a netizen commented and another opined, "If JD Vance really valued John McCain's opinion, he wouldn't have accepted the VP position on Trump's ticket."



 



 

"I can't say who McCain would have backed. But I always find it interesting when politicians invoke the names of people who are dead to back their arguments, knowing there is no way to check -- short of a seance," an individual remarked.



 

"JD Vance keeps getting weirder," an individual penned while someone wrote, "You are so wrong!!!!! He definitely would not support the Trump Vance ticket."
