Democrats condemn Randy Fine over anti-Muslim remarks

US House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Tuesday, February 17, sharply criticized Fine over his remarks, escalating calls for accountability within Congress. “Randy Fine is a disgrace to the United States Congress. He is an Islamophobic, disgusting and unrepentant bigot,” Jeffries said in a statement.

Jeffries also faulted House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republicans for what he described as their continued silence on the matter, calling it “unacceptable.” “Their casual acceptance of hateful and divisive language enables this out-of-control behavior. Republican leaders must hold this so-called Member of Congress accountable,” he said.

“House Democrats will not let the racist and bigoted behavior of Randy Fine go unchecked. Accountability is coming to all of these sick extremists when the gavels change hands in November, if not sooner,” he stressed.

If the House moves forward with a vote to censure Fine, the disciplinary action could result in his removal from committee assignments. The Florida lawmaker currently serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Education and the Workforce Committee.
