LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Megyn Kelly sharply criticized Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) speech at the Democratic National Convention, comparing it to the rhetoric of 20th-century Italian fascist leader Benito Mussolini and calling the speech “an assault.”

On Tuesday's episode of 'The Megyn Kelly Show,' Kelly responded to the praise Ocasio-Cortez received online, including from some Republicans.

Megyn Kelly slams AOC’s speech

Megyn Kelly questioned the perception of AOC's speech, saying, “When I saw people on the internet praising her last night, even some Republicans, like, ‘Oh, that was a great speech,’ I thought, have you never actually seen an effective female public speaker?"

"Like, they mistake energy or like enthusiasm for effectiveness. I mean, anyone can get up there and shout at you! [Shouting] She can shout at you! It doesn’t make you a good public speaker. It was like an assault. Right? Don’t you feel assaulted by what I just did? That’s how I felt listening to her,” Kelly added.

Kelly contrasted Ocasio-Cortez’s delivery with former President Barack Obama’s speech at the DNC in 2004, highlighting the uniqueness of Obama’s style.

She remarked, “That’s what AOC was going for. That’s what they all go for. They fail. There’s only one Barack Obama, there will never be another Barack Obama. I’m sorry, find your own style. You’re not good at imitation.”

Megyn Kelly draws a controversial parallel

Adding a provocative comparison, Megyn Kelly suggested that Ocasio-Cortez reminded her of a mix between Hilaria Baldwin and Benito Mussolini.

“She was a cross between Hilaria, who went to a fancy boarding school in either Boston or Rhode Island and isn’t Spanish at all, and also this guy,” she said, referring to Mussolini.

“You may remember him from World War II as the leader of Italy.”

Kelly then played a clip of Mussolini addressing his supporters from a balcony, drawing a parallel between his commanding presence and Ocasio-Cortez’s speech style.

Social media reacts to Megyn Kelly’s Mussolini comparison

The backlash to Megyn Kelly’s comparison of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Benito Mussolini sparked a flurry of responses from social media users.

One user wrote, "She should watch the Kim Guilfoyle speech."

Another user commented, "Megyn sounds jealous.AOC is relevant. Megyn is not."

One replied, "AOC is a Congresswoman. What is Megyn? A burned-out podcaster. Podcasts, where Republicans go to die."

Another user stated, "No wonder Megyn Kelly can't get a job." A user said, "Megyn is so bitter and jealous."

Another added, "When the MAGA crowd compares you to Mussolini, it’s a compliment."
