WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump remained calm and in control during the chaos that unfolded at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on April 27, according to her senior adviser Marc Beckman.

The event was disrupted after an armed suspect allegedly attempted to target President Donald Trump and other officials, prompting a swift evacuation.

Beckman shared new details about Melania Trump’s response, saying she followed Secret Service instructions while also helping guide others to safety. Despite the alarming situation, no injuries were reported.

First lady was ‘in full control’

Chaos erupted at the Washington Hilton as the annual dinner began, when an armed suspect stormed the venue in what authorities described as an assassination attempt. Secret Service agents quickly moved President Donald Trump and Melania Trump out of the room while attendees took cover.

"She was not frightened. She was in full control. She knew what had to be done," Marc Beckman told Fox News Digital. He added that the first lady complied with security directions and urged others at her table to take cover.

The incident marked the first time Melania Trump was present during an attempt to attack her husband’s life, though previous threats have been reported.

Shock moment explained

During the evacuation, a visibly shocked expression on Melania Trump’s face drew attention, with many attributing it to the gunfire. Beckman, however, said the reaction stemmed from a different moment unfolding simultaneously.

"She was learning that the mentalist [Oz Pearlman] was able to guess what Karoline Leavitt's child, soon-to-be child, was going to be named, which is remarkable. It's shocking. Hence, the expression. Coupled with literally Secret Service charging through the center of the room," he said.

Following the evacuation, the first lady joined administration officials in a secure briefing room.

Secret Service response praised

Beckman said Melania Trump expressed relief that no one was injured and praised the Secret Service for their handling of the situation.

"She's a strong person. She was not injured. Nobody was hurt, fortunately. She was really happy at the end of the day that everyone, in fact, in that room was in good health and was not injured," he said.

He added, "The Secret Service is very of great value to the first lady. She holds them out with the highest level of respect. They've done a tremendous job time and time again."

Beckman noted that Melania Trump understands the risks associated with being part of the first family and remains committed to her role. "She's very proud to be first lady she's very hard working, she's decisive, and she's going to keep pressing ahead," he said.

The First Lady later told reporters during a White House event that she was doing "very well" after the incident.
