'A liar and a thief': Michael Cohen slammed as he admits stealing thousands of dollars from Donald Trump
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: In a dramatic turn in the hush money trial cross-examination, Michael Cohen admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from the Trump organization.
During the former president's New York City trial on Monday, May 20, the former Trump lawyer admitted under oath that he had embezzled $60,000 from the organization by "grossing up" payments intended for tax purposes.
As Cohen admitted to stealing the money, Donald Trump was seen shaking his head at the trial, according to Daily Mail.
Michael Cohen reveals how he stole money from the Trump Organization
During the cross-examination from Trump's attorney Todd Blanche, Cohen revealed how he stole thousands of dollars from the Trump Organization.
Referencing the reimbursement arrangement for a payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels and $50,000 to the tech company Red Finch, Blanche said, “You did steal from the Trump Organization based upon the expected reimbursement from Red Finch."
"Yes, sir," replied Cohen who recounted that he withdrew $20,000 in cash over several days, kept it in a small brown bag, and gave it to Red Finch.
However, he never delivered the full $50,000 as the company did not demand the rest.
Cohen revealed that the Trump Organization believed he had settled the entire debt.
Inside Michael Cohen's testimony at Donald Trump's hush money trial
Cohen serves as the key witness for the hush money trial prosecutors, marking the conclusion of their testimonies.
The trial stems from allegations that Trump allegedly falsified his business documents to conceal hush money payments to Daniels to not disclose their alleged affair before the 2016 elections.
The former Trump lawyer previously testified that the former president asked him to move ahead with the payment to the adult film star and claimed that he notified the 77-year-old politician when Daniels signed the deal, reported CNN.
As MEAWW previously reported, the Trump "fixer" admitted he lied for the former president.
"It was needed to accomplish the task," he said of why he lied for Trump during the trial on May 13.
However, he also shared that he enjoyed his time working for the politician as he said, "Working for him during those 10 years was an amazing experience in many, many ways."
"There were great times, there were several less-than-great times, but for the most part I enjoyed the responsibilities that were given to me," he added.
