WASHINGTON, DC: Former First Lady Michelle Obama did not have quite the start as a podcaster as she would have hoped for.

The first few episodes of her debut podcast 'IMO (In My Opinion)' garnered embarrassingly low numbers in the first 24 hours compared to others on YouTube.

Michelle and her brother, Craig Robinson, launched their new podcast on Monday, March 10, and uploaded their first two episodes on Wednesday, March 12, to start their venture, per OK! Magazine.

Michelle Obama's debut podcast garners just 62,000 views in 24 hours

The first two episodes of Michelle Obama's podcast garnered 47,000 and 15,000 views within the first 24 hours on the platform.

For context, the first episode of California Governor Gavin Newsom's new podcast garnered more than 743,000 views on YouTube and Joe Rogan's show has 500,000 to 56 million viewers and listeners per episode, per the outlet.

Interestingly, around 47 percent of the US population aged 12 and above listen to a podcast at least once a month from YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts, as they are the most popular platforms, according to Backlino.

Statista earlier reported that more than 70 million people in the US listened to podcasts in 2023 and the number is projected to be more than 110 million by 2029.

Obama wrote on Instagram about her podcast, "There's a lot going on in the world right now. We're living through some really complicated and confusing times and on top of that, folks are trying to juggle family life, work dynamics, relationships, aging parents, and more."

She added, "In our first episode, we share stories about growing up on Euclid Avenue in Chicago and the journey that led us to who we are today."

She also mentioned, "From life on the South Side to going to college together to the White House and, more recently, our experience after losing our mom. It's been a lot, but we always know that we'll have each other's backs. For over six decades, we've been each other's sounding board — and now, we can't wait to be yours, too."

Internet roasts Michelle Obama as her podcast garners embarrassingly low numbers

Several internet users roasted the former first lady as the first few episodes of her debut podcast 'IMO (In My Opinion)' garnered embarrassingly low numbers in the first 24 hours as compared to others.

A user wrote on X, "Nobody asked for her opinion. Nobody wants it. We have all heard what she believes, and nobody wants the America she wants. It's pretty simple," while one added, "This would be a good 'punishment podcast' and people should be sentenced to listen to it."

A person also stated, "I can’t force myself to listen to even the opening minutes," whereas one mentioned, "There are people that love Michelle Obama and there are people that love podcasts. Unfortunately, they are not the same people."

A user also wrote, "The clips showcased…once again…what a Negative woman she is," while one commented, "This multimillionaire actually has a subscription based service…incredible; when is enough, enough."
