PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: House Speaker Mike Johnson compared GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump with 'bulletproof George Washington' after surviving a second failed assassination attempt on Sunday, September 15.

Johnson and his wife Kelly met with the former president at Mar-a-Lago after a Secret Service agent opened fire on an alleged assassin named Ryan Wesley Routh, near the 6th hole of the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, per The New York Post.

Mike Johnson told 'Fox & Friends' on Monday, September 16, how he spoke to Trump "right after it happened." He said, "It is something that no one can deny, God has spared his life twice now."

He added, "I told him that it reminded me of the bulletproof George Washington, our first president, who evaded being shot when he was an army colonel — the famous incident in the French and American Indian War, where they all took shots at him and bullet holes went through his jacket and didn’t take him down."

Johnson added that the event took place less than 50 miles from where Trump was shot on the stage in Butler, Pennsylvania.

He mentioned, "These things are not accidents. It’s not luck. I believe it’s providence and we talked about that. It’s a remarkable thing. It would move any man’s heart. I think it’s moved the president’s heart. It’s just something he’s processing right now."

Johnson also talked about Trump's condition when he met him on Sunday. The House Speaker said, "We spent about three hours with him. He was in very good spirits, as you might expect. That’s who he is. He is so resilient and really grateful to see him."

He further said, "I said this, and we will all be talking about this for quite some time, there is no leader in the history of America that has been so attacked and remained so strong and so resilient."

He added, "He is one of a kind. He is not going to stop fighting for the American people. It was really encouraging for us to sit and visit with him right after that happened."

Ryan Wesley Routh detained in apparent Trump assassination attempt

Ryan Wesley Routh was detained on Sunday for an apparent assassination attempt on Trump in Florida. He is a self-employed affordable housing builder in Hawaii who uses social media for politics and current events.

He also posted comments on an X account linked to him referencing the assassination attempt on Trump at a July rally in Pennsylvania. He tagged President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, in separate posts, and encouraged them to visit those injured at the rally, per CNN.

Routh’s eldest son, Oran, informed CNN through text that Routh was "a loving and caring father and honest hardworking man." He wrote, "I don’t know what’s happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I’ve heard it doesn’t sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent."
