Mindy Kaling takes a page from Kim Kardashian's playbook as she stuns in gold sequined gown

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mindy Kaling turned heads at the premiere of her new series ‘Not Suitable For Work’ as she showed off her slimmed-down figure in a gold sequined gown. 

The 46-year-old actress looked incredibly toned down after earlier revealing that she lost more than 40 pounds.

For the Thursday, May 28 event, she appeared to channel Kim Kardashian as her dress looked quite similar to the socialite's 2018 Met Gala look. The 45-year-old reality star had worn a Versace gown, featuring small, delicate sequins.

Kaling’s dress fearured bigger, irregularly shaped sequins. It also featured shoulder straps adorned with rhinestones, which also covered her neckline. To complete her stunning look, the comedian added a pair of glittery golden Louboutins and a pair of dangling diamond earrings.

Kaling’s weight loss has created a lot of buzz lately, with many accusing her of taking Ozempic-like weight-loss drugs to shed pounds. But the Tony Award-winner has dismissed and also revealed the motivation behind her transformation.

In a May interview, Kaling reportedly said that she began putting effort on her body after getting worried about her health and understanding that she needs to “live at least 20 more years” for her children — daughters Katherine and Anne, and son Spencer.

“Do I wake up every day being like, ‘I look amazing and I’m so gorgeous’? No, unsurprisingly, but I truly feel so healthy. When I was younger, I would want to lose weight because of vanity reasons. Now I want to lose weight or have lost weight because I want to stave off things like diabetes,” she shared.

Kaling also disclosed that diabetes has affected “both sides of my family, and trying to avoid those kinds of things will, I think, help longevity for me, and that’s my goal.”

In the same interview, the screenwriter addressed some of her fans’ frustrations over her weight loss.

She said, “It’s sometimes no fun when one of your favorite actors loses weight. You have an idea of what they were like when you grew attached to them, and it made them endear themselves to you.”

“Of course, it’s never a joy to be scrutinized, but also I truly understand it, as someone who consumes pop culture,” Kaling added.

Even in 2023, Kaling had reportedly opened up about her transformation as she asserted at the time that she’s “feeling really confident in my body these days, which is not something that I've been able to say for my whole life, unfortunately. I feel great.”
