MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA: The reported shooting of a 37-year-old woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in a residential Minneapolis neighborhood has drawn attention nationwide.

The incident comes amid the Trump administration’s recent enforcement efforts, which have involved deploying federal agents to Minneapolis and St Paul. The shooting has sparked protests in Minnesota and other cities, including New York City, where residents took to the streets to express their concerns, call for answers, and demonstrate against ICE.

Protests held in New York City after fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis

Several protests were held in New York City after a woman was shot and killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis. On Wednesday, January 7, people gathered at Foley Square in Manhattan. Immigration advocates called it an emergency rally in response to the incident.

People in Lower Manhattan expressed anger over the shooting and demanded answers. They gathered at Foley Square, near the federal courthouse and the Department of Homeland Security’s New York offices.

Victim identified in Minneapolis ICE shooting

The woman killed in Minneapolis has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. She was a US citizen, according to a federal official. City leaders said she was acting as a legal observer during federal actions. She was not a target of an ICE-related arrest.

Witnesses told WCCO that whistles sounded around 9:30 am to alert neighbors of ICE’s presence. They said a Honda Pilot was blocked by multiple federal agents. An agent tried to open the driver’s side door. The driver then put the car in reverse and then into drive. Witnesses said they heard three gunshots. The Honda traveled several more feet before crashing into another vehicle.

This incident prompted Donald Trump to post on Truth Social, sharing his perspective on the Minneapolis event after reviewing video footage, and defending the ICE officer’s actions. His post directly contradicted remarks from Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

“I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch. The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis."

"They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!” concluded Trump.
